This new thread has caused me to open one more Bud Light. Also the fact that I have no real responsibilities in life.

There is one near death experience in there for everyone.

Especially for Penn State students. It's like a given right for a PSU student to walk into traffic without even looking. I consider a car stopping two feet short a near death experience

But seriously, Bill, it's not hard to make your kid root for your sports teams even if you live out of market, and it's important. My dad and I have roughly three common interests, whiskey, being angry Republicans and the Giants. It's not much, but we talk a fair amount (90% of which is about the Giants), and have a good relationship. Having the sports thing with the kid is worth a lot down the road, I think.

That's a nice though, jerz. In 2007, the first thing I did after the Phils clinched the division was call my parents. They're the first people I talked to after they won the NLCS last year. And I traveled home from State College for the sole purpose of seeing Game 5 at home. That last decision was one of the best of my life.

And that's not to mention that even when I was at Penn State, I'd call my dad every Sunday, Monday or Tuesday to talk about the Eagles game.

Granted, I was born, raised and still live in Philly, but I can't imagine life without sharing that bond among my family. My mother and I have very little in common as far as preferences go, but the Phillies are a constant.

No doubt, my dad and I share Eagles season tix, and have a pretty similar relationship as you describe, we're not as political as you and your pops, but we talk economy, scotch, and phills/eagles/flyers. Thats what I want with my son. I love the relationship I have with my father.
