My luck on lottery tickets continues. I just bought three of the Deal or No Deal tickets at the beer distributor. Won 100 bucks on one, and 3 on another.

Who needs unemployment when you have lottery tickets.

I remember when I was about 12 my grandpa bought me a scratch off and I won $25. Since then, not as much luck. I've had 3 out 6 in the Florida Lotto a few times for about $5 each.
How dare you interrupt my Lime Rickey!

It occurred to me today that a place like Brooklyn is probably the worst of all worlds in terms of taking books with any sort of cachet to them out of the library. I went online to our catalog and checked the David Simon ("The Wire") books, the Roberto Bolano novels, Saul Bellow's "Dangling Man" and one or two other titles; with maybe one exception, everything was either out, "in transit" (whatever that means) or on hold, despite their having multiple copies of most of those titles. For most of last year I was waiting for "Kafka on the Shore" to get returned.

I think the reason must be that New York City, like maybe a few other places like Boston or San Francisco, has people who are "literary" enough to want to read things like this (not super-abstruse textbooks, but not airport novels either) but not rich enough to just go out and buy copies. Other than college towns, there can't be too many American communities with a lot of people who fit that description.

I've been ordering a bunch of memorabilia for my mancave and one of my favorite pieces just arrived. It's a 16 x 20 pic of Chuck Bednarik standing over Frank Gifford (whom Bednarik knocked out of football for 18 months) because of this hit-

Anyway at the top of the photo Concrete Charlie signed, "This F*ckin game is over!", then his signature with the year he went into the Hall of Fame in the middle, and at the bottom of the print where Gifford is laid out, he wrote, "Sorry Frank".

I'll post more pics in the mancave thread when everything arrives.

it's kind of fun to use google earth to find things in north korea. i can't imagine lil' kim would approve, though.
if you don't know what the wrestlers are trying to do--how certain moves and holds are supposed to work and so forth, then it might just look like too sweaty guys rolling around on a mat.

Oh. I'm replying to a Steagles post. Um. OK.

I'm going to this political theory workshop, where the attendees are supposed to read four papers (in progress) and discuss them all day. I just received the first one, and opened it in MSWord. At first it looked like a 9 page paper, a bit thin, but, hey, that means I only have to read 9 pages. After a moment though, the little page counter started spinning. 42 pages. Ugh. At least it's in courier 12.

You know what really grinds my gears? When one of my roommates cooks salmon or shrimp or something, and leaves the fish wrapper in the trash and doesn't take it out. I sit here, trying to do important things like read message boards, and it smells bad.

I don't really feel like putting on pants to take out the trash, so I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. Maybe I'll open the window.

I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.
