The first one I watched three times. Thought it was pretty good. The second one I liked but not nearly as much.

Just like Shawshank, I can't pass up National Treasure when it's on.

Never seen either. The previews for the first looked like it was exploring new levels of dumb -- I guess it's OK?

Nope, they both suck. Just about as bad as every other Nicholas Cage movie since "Leaving Las Vegas".

Yeah, I'm with you. I'd add Dumb and Dumber, Drumline, Under Siege and Cliffhanger to that list.

National Treasure is dumb. Historically, it's wrong in so many ways. And then, they whole shadow at 3 pm, but it's not 3 pm because of daylight savings time. Hello, but, um, the shadow's position at 3 pm will vary according to the day of year. And, why did the Revolutionaries, dirt poor, paying soldiers in what was likely to be worthless IOUs and commandeering necessary supplies, hide such an invaluable treasure. And where did the colonists get such a bounty anyway?

I'm not a movie snob, I sat and watched Caddyshack all the way through yesterday. I even liked that dumbass movie Sahara, which was similar to national treasure, and while not a realistic movie, wasn't quite as over the top as National Treasure.

National Treasure I and II are movies I rank along with Jurassic Park--movies a lot of other people seem to like but I simply despise.

Geez, I've met people people that didn't really like National Treasure though not that many. I don't know if I ever heard anyone that didn't get at least some enjoyment out of Jurassic Park. I don't remember how old I was but it will always be a cool memory of my childhood seeing that at the theatre. I watched it a few months ago and still enjoyed it. I remember thinking Laura Dern was the hottest girl ever though I don't think she is looking very good these days. I guess she might never been that hot but for a pre-10 year old she was smokin hot and had dinosaurs trying to rip her clothes off.

I can't really tell you why I don't like Jurassic Park. It isn't the bad science. I think it was because the kids in peril thing was Saturday morning cartoon dumb, the dinosaurs weren't really all that scary, and the people in the movie are supposed to be smart, but they do dumb things over and over again. And the fact that if I'm breeding raptor, I'd have an RPG or two handy.

I don't really like Independence Day either. Though that movie is semi-redeemed by the fact that the sidekick who is inevitably killed in the movie is white guy Harry Connick Jr.

I never got into Jurassic Park. Never found dinosaurs to be interesting as a kid.

Although I can say the same about a lot of movies and movie themes. I still have never seen Star Wars, for instance.

Other than being terrible, the thing that got me with the National Treasure movies was that in the first one, Nic says they are going after the greatest treasure in the history of the world. Ok. But then you can't use that line again in the second one. Yet, sure enough, in the second one he's again going after the greatest treasure of all time. Which is it Nic? Fuck those movies.

i'm so glad i knew how bad the movie was within one scene, that i didn't even have to bother analyzing it.

Jurassic Park is stupid based on its premise, but other than that, it's freaking awesome. Aside from E.T., it's Spielberg's best popcorn flick.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

Independence Day does make a good reference when someone tells you they believe in aliens/UFOs... 'cuz if they exist, more likely than not that's what they'd be like.

They definitely wouldn't want to side with us. What could we do for them as allies? Maybe we could trade some of our hottest women for information. But with their infinitite technology they probably have already created the hottest things "they" like to bang. Maybe they don't even like to have sex anyway.

See, I loved ET. So it's not even a Spielberg thing. Not a big fan of any of the Indiana Jones movies though. Not that they suck, they're just really silly. I find the arguments about ranking them to be silly--they're all pretty much the same. I kind of like the 3rd best.
