That's not what I said, woodrow. There's just a lot of crap going wrong and it will make it difficult for Obama to get stuff done. Do you disagree?

I'm not at all saying these things are a coordinated effort. In fact, I don't see how they could be. I guess I should have made a separate post instead of just making a line of ******'s

My comment was about your "conveniently left behind cell phone" remark. My interpretation was that you were implying it was bogus evidence

Oh, that makes more sense. But it wouldn't be the first time false evidence was planted and there's already evidence that the captured subject isn't who he says he is. I guess the fact that this attack was a conspiracy is already proven to me (multiple people planned the attack, right?). The question is who did it and why. And there's plenty of reason for some parties to want the finger pointed at other parties to raise rancor between India and Pakistan or different groups in India. "Convenient" was too strong of a word, but I don't trust any one piece of evidence in a case like this, especially when several groups have a lot to gain by getting the world community to point fingers at the wrong guys. Of course, a young al quida-like group also might want to take credit to gain notoriety and recruit members, so I don't think we can say much from just the cell phone.

Like I said, I'll be surprised if this isn't eventually traced back to some portion of the ISI. But time will tell.

Are you saying he won't have a 100 days? Honeymoon is over before it started? I think he'll get a lot of little things done in the beginning. It will be the larger reforms that will be difficult to pass, but this is no different from most other times.

Just over two hours till polls close in Georgia. I'm guessing Saxby takes it 54-46%. Apparently black turnout is way down in early voting, so I'm guessing it'll be a little more comfortable than the polling projects. But who knows? Maybe they had a great operation for election day turnout. I guess it could go either way since it was close in November, and turnout is so random in a runoff.

Seems like Chambliss is outperforming his percentages in some of the rural counties early by quite a bit. Not sure how turnout is comparing, and we won't know anything definitive until the more populated areas come in.

Really romping at the moment.

Now onto hoping that Franken is done discovering piles of ballots in Democratic machine counties so we hold at 42 seats.

Looks like Chambliss's margin of victory will be around 15%. I know it doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things, but that's stunningly huge.

Jeb Bush is apparently considering tossing his hat in the ring for the Florida Senate race.

this little item mixes a bit of PA politics & some insurance co. economics, capturing the worst of both in my view:

Wall Street Journal, RP McQueen wrote:Insurer Casts Off Long-Term-Care Policies (note: WSJ subscription required)
A major insurer has dumped a chunk of its long-term-care policies into an independent trust, putting tens of thousands of policyholders at risk of reduced benefits or big premium increases.

Conseco Inc. officials have said the transfer of many of the insurers' long-term care policies to a new state-supervised nonprofit trust, Senior Health Insurance Co. of Pennsylvania, allows it to concentrate on its core businesses. The policies were a drag on the company's earnings because they were underpriced and required continuing capital infusions to meet the long-term needs of policyholders....
Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Joel Ario defended the transfer, saying in a written statement, "There were no good choices here, only bad ones and worse ones."

So let's recap: Conseco is dumping the policies that IT underpriced in the eager, possibly tumid, lap of PA's Insurance Commissioner - & by extension PA's taxpayers (presumably many of you), providing as explanation only that they "must" do so because the policies are a drag on earnings.

Commissioner Ario's quote couldn't be more apt.

The "core business" of Canseco's senior leadership should be breaking big rocks into little rocks, closely supervised by PA corrections officers and maybe their well-hung cellmates.

I'd post Ario's phone # & email address but a) I don't have them & b) the proprietors would probably frown on that.

I would love to be informed that I have wildly misinterpreted this news item.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

FWIW, a program has recently been introduced by the Dept of Insurance regarding long-term care. I can't get into many specific emails/items I've received about it, though.

Suffice to say, you aren't wrong and this will cost money...these are being offered at low rates and subisidized by the state due to infeasability.

Nope, sorry. We wouldn't want important threads like I MADE A NAUGHTY getting lost in the shuffle. 8-)

I wish that Coleman would concede the race now that Franken is ahead. He would be helping the healing process to begin.

Do we ever gain votes in recounts? I know all conservatives are knuckle dragging mouthbreathers, but Democrats sure are fucking terrible at voting.

I have a political-geek story that j-hoya at least will appreciate.

I was sitting in a Starbucks in lower Manhattan this afternoon doing some work between meetings, and as I was starting to finish up two guys came in and sat down at the table behind me. One of them looked familiar but I couldn't place him. As I was putting the laptop away I heard a bit of their conversation, with words and phrases that jumped out like "transition," "Podesta" and "CAP" (that's the Center for American Progress, for those who aren't as geekily engaged as some of us).

Then I placed the guy I thought I recognized: it was Ben Smith, the Politico blogger. Not sure if I've mentioned this, but I knew Ben a little bit six or seven years ago as he was starting out writing for the NY Sun and Observer, when he sometimes did policy stuff. So I introduced myself and congratulated him on all his recent success. He claimed he remembered me, but certainly might have been just being polite.

Anyway, I so rarely see any "famous" people--unlike my wife who seems to run into one every couple weeks or so--that I thought it was funny the guy I recognized is closer to a cult hero than a real celebrity type.
