The big things that dropped late in 2000 and 2004 were Bush's drunk driving arrest from the 1970s and the bin Laden tape that Kerry blamed for costing him the election. The DUI story dropped on November 2nd, and the bin Laden tape became public on October 31st.

CBC coverage on C-Span.

Current breakdown going into the election:

Conservative - 127
Liberal - 95
Bloc Québécois - 48
NDP - 30
Green - 1

Most expect it will be a Conservative minority again. Results should be available on C-Span beginning at either 9:30 or 10. There is an online embargo until 10 PM.

I get that sense from the Democrat's kneejerk anti-military POV. In my mind, and I'm sure lots of conservatives, every Democrat is Neville Chamberlain, a spineless sissy who thinks that bad actors will behave nicely if we have them to tea and buy their friendship.

Jimmy Carter's frozen fear etched that impression in my mind. I was a Democrat in 1980, but even as a young liberal I sensed that the Iranians would not taunt Reagan the way they did Carter.

In my view, Democrats see every conflict as Viet Nam, as one more reason to trot out an anti-war protest. I don't want us droppin' the big one on every nation that annoys us, but I'd prefer it to simpering appeasement.
