FWIW I read it that way.

You're blaming Bush because that's a fun sport.

yeah lets just go ahead and mash 9/11 and the war in iraq together as a cause and effect in bush's brain. maybe "war on terror" would be the more appropriate item to list in his failed responses to big events that took place in his term.

i wont be one of those bush-shoulda-seen-it-coming or listened to the warnings guys, but there are plenty enough of those guys around to argue with...

blaming bush is a fun sport, you're right. it's also so incredibly easy.

i think the initial post was just sort of a "wow.. another disaster in bush's term." i tend to agree with that "wow". and id say its tough to argue that he responded to any of these disasters well.

I've read by less drunk and racist authors that this is part of it, but they then go in and say that the banks went ape-$#@! once they got used to being able to do it and the blame can't really be laid squarely on one or the other chicken and egg eh Woody?

Let the record reflect once and for all that Vox reads racist websites! And I'll vote egg, since it's closest in appearance to a skinhead.

Without much knowledge of the details, I could buy that this describes some chunk of the "bad risk" lending that did so much to put us in this mess.

But one problem with this concept as a partisan attack is that I remember how eager Republicans were to make the "largest increase in minority homeownership ever ZOMG BUSH DOES CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE SEE!" in, say, 2004 and 2005. As usual, there's blame to go around.

According to Reggie White, yes. You can fit a ton of them in there.

But he's (I think admittedly, at least his opponents say so) not a conservative or a liberal, so it's bound to be confusing.

One possible downside--Congress will consider all manner of really dumb stuff, like a 15k homebuyer tax credit being pushed by the American Homebuilders Association to try to stimulate the economy out of recession.

I'm conservative, but I'm not dogmatic. Sometimes problems require non ideological solutions. When a lot of people I trust who are a lot smarter and better informed on issues agree on something, I like to see that something happen. And I really hate to see it stopped because a whole lot of people who don't know shit about anything get in the way.

The AHA bill, alas, will probably be supported by the same reglar folks who defeated the Wall Street bailout.
