Nothing too bad. I asked her for a drink and she gave me an ambiguous brush-off - "Yeah, definitely, but I'm really busy this week," - which I actually took at face value and as a good sign, like we'd just go and have a drink next week, instead but it's been two (maybe three?) weeks since and she hasn't come by and today another assistant came by and asked me to do something for their department head, but there was a post-it on top that addressed my girl - like, "Sally (innocents protected), take this to the slide library and see what they can do with it," and I just envision her over there all, "OMG Betty can you take this over, I can't handle the creepy library kid." So yeah, sigh, I should have left well enough alone.

But ultimately it had to be done because I was going nuts from not asking her out. Better to be rejected than not know.

Yeah, nothing ventured/nothing gained. Eh, I'd still hold out hope. You're possibly reading into it a bit. If nothing else, you laying back and not caring would probably help either way. Sometimes I'm glad I'm not single. Sometimes.
