It'll be tough to top New Orleans, where I got a great dance from a girl who could have been Avril Lavigne's stunt double. I worried about her during the Katrina coverage.

looks like somebody tried to break into one of the buildings on my property today. we live on an old chicken farm, so besides the house there are a few other small buildings around. up by the garage we have an area with a pool table, air hockey, tv and right now a lot of junk laying around. the windows were long covered with plywood from the days of playing hoops and hockey in the area. when i got to the top of the driveway, the plywood pieces from the first window were ripped off and laying on the ground, the second window had the plywood ripped off halfway, the third window sill had been messed with, but the real kicker was they left the fourth window go. had they messed with that just a little they would have gotten in. not sure what they were looking for, but they were pretty cocky. my dad left around 10 and i got home around 330, so they were out there in broad daylight prying away at things. there have been some reports of people having their sheds broken into and mowers stolen. who knows. i do know they better hope they i never catch them in the act or there will be plenty of hurt to go around. not the first time either. a ways back someone ripped a screen out of our inclosed patio and ganked our tv. fucking people these days.

My parents were on a cruise there and he's been in the ship medical center since last night with severe pain, vomiting and a fever. $#@! awesome. And to compound the problem, my mom is a medical mess all by herself with poor vision and lots of walking pain with difficulty getting around by herself. Not to mention she's terrible with technology so I'm sure she's going to let her cell phone run out of battery and I won't be able to talk to her and receive updates. Plus I don't think she knows how to check voicemail if I leave her a message. $#@!. Your positive thoughts or advice welcomed.

Anyone know if Blue Cross/Blue Shield is accepted in Bermuda? They have some vague stuff on their website about "Worldwide Bluecard" and some phone numbers to call, but I'm wondering if anyone has specific experience or advice. At least they have really good insurance and the hospital there is supposed to decent. Hopefully this won't cost them $100K

Woody, I hope that you Dad gets well soon. I second the idea of getting a phone card for your mom. I've used MCI cards in the past, but you do want to make sure they work out of the country, as well.

As far as the BCBS, my experience with Independence and Delaware has been that for out-of-network stuff, you'll get about 70% coverage. You're going to have HIPPA issues, but you should see if your mom can get in touch with your Dad's doctor (GP) at home, and see if they can coordinate care some how.

I stopped on teh way home and looked at phone cards (they have a literal wall of them at the supermarket by my house). It looks like they're mostly made to call from the US to international, so I don't think they'll be much help, unfortunately. Oh well

Woody,

I checked MCI, and it looks like they DON'T support calls from Bermuda, BUT, AT&T does.

http://www.consumer.att.com/prepaidcard/fy/#

From their store finder:
Nationally, AT&T PrePaid Phone Cards are available at most Wal-Mart®, Target® and SAM's CLUB® stores.

Thanks, I just bought one! Didn't realize you can have instant access if you buy them online, but it makes sense.

Although, the sequence is the biggest pain in the ass to use:

1. Dial 1-800 Bermuda ATT number
2. Dial 1-800 Access Number for calling card
3. Dial 10 digit PIN number
4. Dial number (1-610, etc..) that you're calling in the US

By my count that's 43 digits she'll have to dial in the proper sequence without screwing up or getting frustrated and smashing the phone.

Yeah, never gonna happen :?

Oh, and I have to read this all to her and give her the instructions over a cell phone. Bahaha

buy a phone card, and as soon as you talk to her, give her the number to call and the pin and tell her to call you every night using it

This is the one we use (domestic and international).

Is there a way to create a shortcut of some kind? When we had Unlimited Calling (I think that's what it was called) you could configure a three or four digit pin once you were in and it did the rest.

So he had a CT scan at the hospital... acute appendicitis... yikes. The surgeon is coming soon to decide if he need surgery right away, like tonight, or later, like tomorrow. So, he needs emergency surgery. In Bermuda. Christ. God knows how long they're going to be in Bermuda for, but they're probably not getting back on the cruise ship on Thursday... :?

There are so many different things that it can be with the symptoms you listed- is the severe pain in his abdomen area? If so appendicitis sounds like a possibility.

Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night? Have visiting all those doctors over the years imparted medical knowledge and the ability to make an internet diagnosis?
