It is $#@! unreal. Seems like the moderators and Clinton are in some kind of contest to see who can be more vicious, small-minded and irrelevant to what people are actually interested in.

Since the last debate, there have been major developments in the financial markets, Iraq, inflation and housing. You'd think they might ask something. Anything.

MSNBC:
The result was arguably one of Mr. Obama’s weakest debate performances. He at times appeared annoyed as he sought to answer questions about his former pastor, his reluctance to wear an American flag pin on his lapel and his association in Chicago with former members of the Weather Underground, a radical group that carried out bombings in the 1960s that were intended to incite the overthrow of the government.

Media generates stupid questions at debate.
Obama put on defensive trying to put debate back on topic (Economy, War, etc)
Media paints Obama as loser of debate for not answering their stupid questions.

And if he had said something like "Can we focus on the issues important to the American people rather than my attire" he would be talked about as avoiding the "hard" questions or whiny.

I do find it funny that all the media types are painting Obama as losing the debate when an MSNBC texting poll had Obama winning the debate something like 75-25. I guess all those kids were busy with their text messaging about the debate while their parents were busy voting for the next American Idol.

Ron Paul won those things too. They mean less than nothing.

I think that would have went over spectacularly.

He had a perfect moment when he was talking about the kind of debate this country would have during the general campaign; he should have closed to the effect of, "And I was hoping to have that kind of debate tonight."

Yeah, I saw the same opening. The last question was something like "What will you say to the superdelegates?" His response should have been along the lines of "Given that this whole debate has been about campaign tactics and other nonsense, I'd rather spend this time talking about all the things you didn't get to tonight, but might actually matter to voters in Pennsylvania and across the country. Like, I dunno, housing..."

The debate won't change anything except make it easier for the Republicans to come up with their attack strategies--not that they ever need much help--and, I pray, accelerate the pace of people getting disgusted with the corporate media.

Obama on the debate:

I will tell you it does not get more fun than these debates. They are inspiring debates. I think last night we set a new record because it took us 45 minutes before we even started talking about a single issue that matters to the American people.

It took us 45 minutes — 45 minutes before we heard about health care, 45 minutes before we heard about Iraq, 45 minutes before we heard about jobs, 45 minutes before we heard about gas prices.

Now, I don’t blame Washington for this because that’s just how Washington is. They like stirring up controversies and getting us to play gotcha games and getting us to attack each other. And I’ve got to say Sen. Clinton looked in her element.

Amen to that. It's kind of sad to see Clinton so completely and enthusiastically complete the transformation into what she once hated.

McCain plans "different kind of campaign"

Gotta admit I strongly approve of this. Still, his chances will come down to whether he can convince more people that he's substantively different from Bush--while not losing the 28 percent who still love President Dimwit--than the Democrats can convince that he's substantively the same.

So the Weather Underground has established a revolutionary front stretching from Michigan to Texas? Forget the North/South civil war; this time its East vs. West.

Clinton's supporters know about cellphones?

My pleasure; just remember that the 9-o'clock show is completely different from the 7-o'clock show.

Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama (in order) all made appearances on Colbert tonite (Clinton & Edwards in person, Obama via satellite). Edward's bit was hilarious.

I think I hate teevee pundits almost as much as right wing radio nuts, and more than typical Republicans.

15% of people think Obama is Muslim
but people apparently think he's the better candidate, BY FAR. look at that graph tracking the numbers since Nov 07!

This may reflect an increasing popularity of Islam in America?

Here's sort of a big deal: Nunn and Boren back Obama.

They're superdelegates--I think--and Nunn of course has a lot of foreign policy cred (more than he deserves, IMO, but still).

Press Secretary to the Rescue

Kind of a random/cool story.

Also, Karl Rove was in our office today. Brushes with greatness, you know.
