Burrell's almost looks black there. What the hell is Wright doing there? Overshift for Howard?

Made my first trip to Shea yesterday. Couldn't have picked a better time to do it. As expected, the Mets fans were all running their mouths on the subway ride there. It was fantastic to see the entire stadium sit down in silence after the Dobbs homerun. Aside from the mariachi band that jumped on for one stop, the subway ride back was silent. It was great.

But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it. And I'm dead serious.' "

Ken Davidoff, NY Newsday

...the Mets should watch the scoreboard to ensure that the Padres hold on to that 1 1/2-game lead over the Phillies in the NL wild-card race. A Mets-Phillies NL Championship Series would considerably raise the stress level in Flushing.

.
If they somehow find a way into October and then defeat the Diamondbacks in the first round, they'd have to feel awfully good going against the Mets for a World Series berth.

It takes some arrogance to assume the Mets are definitely in the playoffs and that you should feel lucky to make it as far as the NLCS and not worry who you play. But in New York, it's always a given.

I don't think the Mets will blow this, but they did have that 3-13 June swoon that pretty much started with getting swept by the Phils.
