ken -- I don't think it matters if they pitch him or baby him. He has been on borrowed time all year. His shoulder is toast and there's no good way to handle a guy like that. Might as well get as much out of him before he goes blooey. Maybe he'll retire after this season and the Phils can use the 6 million simoleans for a good pitcher somehow.

If he gets hurt now, he won't retire because he'll get paid without playing if he's injured. I don't see any way of getting out from under Gordon's contract. Moyer, on the other hand, might retire.

I thought this was the last year to his contract anyway? I thought it was a 2 year deal

I'm pretty sure there's a 3rd year, option or not, but it was 3 years

How cool was this sweep? In many ways, I feel like this was the last opportunity for excitement and achievement in the season, and they did it.

I'll still be rooting for the Phillies the rest of the year, but I expect this team to do something stupid like lose the next five games and it won't matter anyway.

Howard Bryant, on ESPN's home page, says it well:

Howard Bryant wrote:They get close. Tantalizingly close. The fans start believing. Then, when it matters most, they fall apart at the finish. The Philadelphia Phillies are the biggest tease in all of baseball.

2008 = $5.5M guaranteed

2009 = $4.5M team option or $1M buyout

I threw that in the atrocity thread...not sure if it was or not but it had to go somewhere

The Cardinals still don't know who they're going to start for Monday or Tuesday. Looks like it'll be Wainwright on Wednesday...

Leave ken alone with his crushes, there's nothing wrong with that.
