Is victorino a comp for moniak? Maybe slightly less speed and HR power?

Most have said Christian Yelich, Brett Gardner, Steve Finley before PEDs.....maybe Jacoby Ellsbury or Johnny Damon?

Those are really underwhelming comps for a #1 pick

it was a down year at the top. if it all pans out he's going to be a valuable player so don't get too hung up on comps.

Considering how far some players can exceed pre-draft ratings when they hit the majors, I'm not overly bothered by underwhelming comps. If Moniak develops power, he's gonna be in the Utley area of complete playerdom.

Come on....you want them comparing a high schooler to HOF'ers? Fucking ridiculous. Ok, yea, he's the next Tony Gwynn. They're meaningless comparisons. Here look at Correa's comps from 2012:

Jimmy Paredes....or an at the time minor leaguer in Manny Machado.

Steve Finley, Ellsbury, Damon...would be ecstatic if he turned into any of those 3. 44, 28.2 and 56 career WAR respectively.

Yea, I know. If it's any consolation, the last 3 drafts haven't had "that guy"...so it's not like we just drew the only short straw going around (which is the sentiment I keep reading that has me a little perturbed). We got a kid with the chance to be really good and who seems to have a pretty high floor. I'm excited about that.

I'm curious about his high school weight program for baseball. If he can get significantly stronger, he could have a really high ceiling. I'm almost hoping his program had no formal weight training and he can make big strides there.

I'm on the MM bandwagon.

His body is still immature so by virtue of age he's going to pack on a bit of muscle anyway, and with pro weight training he'll gain a few more pounds on top of a maturing body.

I think you're right, but some kids pack on more muscle than others. He's pretty slight looking now. I'm hoping that's because he hasn't had much training and he's immature rather than it's his natural build. If he's been in a good weight program for 3 or 4 years at his high school, then we'll just hope that he's wiry strong like Utley. He sure looks like he can hit.

My favorite new overused catch phrase from this year's draft was "he has elite bat-to-ball skills"

Charlie in a radio interview said defense like Steve Finley and Jim Edmonds (13 gold gloves between them) in center and bat reminded him of Utley   :-D :-D Good call etched Chaos

Also, mentioned people told him Yelich.

Well that would be a top five player in baseball. Going to be fun to watch it play out.
