This guy has to be the dumbest Eagles Reporter I've seen on twitter. He is acting like the Eagles passed on drafting Mariotta.

If the #Eagles had landed Marcus Mariota last year, they would be reigning NFC East Champions and Chip Kelly would still be here #Fact

Probably busy forging his notes on draft prospects so he can show them to Lurie.

I know I keep saying the same thing, but the price of safeties is going to reset in a few weeks, why would any agent do a deal now.

I read somewhere that agents are the ones driving these deals to get done before FA because they're afraid of losing their clients

I'm okay with whatever he played great when they didn't have him mismatched in the slot on some tiny speedster.

Seems like a classic Banner/Roseman style cap deal. The player gets more but the cap short term gets a bit back. Also secure a player in his prime for the rest of his best years. Further stabilizes the locker room. Rewards a perceived leader.

I'm really curious as to where Connor Barwin stands with the franchise now? And with Jim Schwartz??

Although some speculated that Connor Barwin may transition from a 3-4 linebacker to a 4-3 linebacker, Schwartz told the Eagles' website recently that Barwin fits on the defensive line.

"I think he fits real well for what we're going to do in the defensive end standpoint," Schwartz said. "He's done that in the past. He did that when he was first drafted in Houston and he had a lot of productivity there. I think most of the plays that he made were rushing the passer. I think that size-wise, effort-wise, skill set-wise, he fits well there."

There is a chance - that a lot of things go right this year.

Imagine for a moment the following:

Hicks comes back healthy and picks right up where he left off -- Kendricks under Schwartz plays smarter and better in a 4-3 anyway. Alonso gets back to his rookie form which was in Jim's defense already. Suddenly, our pedestrian LB core becomes above average to superb. Barwin/Curry in 4-3 get sax. Fletcher plays inside on 1st and 2nd and outside on 3rd. Graham rotates to help contain the edge on rushing, Logan solid in the middle gets penetration too - and Schwartz who doens't like to blitz a lot - doesn't have to. He's got 3 fast young LBs running around making plays, and some speed rushers and some beef up front. Probably needs another DT and we can see if they will need another DE depending on how Barwin Curry and Graham all fare in this system? They still have Hart and Bair right? Nick Fairly is out there - there are some options.

If suddenly our front 7 with guys rotating - is very solid to superb - then the DBs aren't working as hard - its obviously Rowe, Maxwell and Jenkins for 3 of the slots - and that means mainly they need to fill another S and Corner - maybe Jacorey Shephard comes back - maybe Carrol is in the mix too for 2016.

Then - if that D stays mostly healthy and guys like Alonso and Hicks and Curry really get it done - they can get whatever missing piece or two for 2017 to become a top 10 D ?

As for offense, they already have a deep RB group - and J Math - and if Agholor comes to play - at least give us what Maclin more or less did - then we could get better mostly with just our own guys. Pick up a veteran WR to add to the mix - maybe even two vets - coming off injuries or cuts - who might just do enough. Guys who still know in their hearts they have some game left.

The big question is QB - but this D could be a lot better just because of Schwartz and the change in scheme. They may be more talented than we realize.
