Maybe to avoid stupid questions from the media about where his office is and whether or not his completely unsubstantiated reputation around the league impacted them at all in choosing a candidate.

he won't. my money is that he talks at the senior bowl where there will be more than just the Philadelphia media sharks. he'll want some kind of backdrop that will force the reporters to ask more than just FO-structure/drama-related questions.

But those are (or at least can be) legitimate questions right now. If anything explaining some of the structure would be helpful PR wise

No sane person would willingly subject themselves or an employees of theirs to the massacre that would be Howie at that PC. The PC is about Pedersen as Head Coach, not allowing the Philly media to mercilessly attack Howie. Frankly I doubt Pedersen gets a single question that isn't 'why did you take the job with that snake as GM?' if Howie is present.

The problem is that just last year, something happened inside Novacare and Howie was never seen or heard from again. The Eagles style for a long time now, is always to speak with one voice. To be seen as seamless and controversy free inside Novacare. The early assassination of Chip Kelly has made it awkward. True or not, the perception has been that somehow Howie was in conflict w Chip. Or that Howie killed off his man Gamble. The reality is, that Howie has liekly continued to do most of what he used to do, minus playing the de-facto GM going in to the draft. I doubt very many trades, cuts, or FA pick-ups happened in a vacuum. They all confer and decide as an organization based on a variety of factors - healthy, age, cost, scheme, strategic plan, etc...

Because egg is on Lurie's face around Chip, and things got crazy there for a bit, to put Chip and Howie out there - as if they have some obligation to explain themselves to the otuside world, which they do not - or rehash what happened with the end of Andy and the rise and fall of Chipper - isn't anything they plan to expose.

Lurie will be dignified. The media don't date push Jeff too far for fear of many consequences - and Jeff never has acted like a d-head - he's always dignified. He will say a bunch of stuff that picks up where he left off - and he will introduce Doug - talk about how he's known him for years - knows how talented he is, and how he can work well with the org and excited abotu the talent he inherits. Blah blah.

There will be 1-2-3 questions attempted about Howie or more broadly, "who is running personnel" Jeff will say there is a braintrust that confer, Donahoe, Howie, and everyone reports and recommends to him - and Doug is a voice in the mix, and maybe they are looking for another exec blahblah.

He can't simply say "Howie is back in his old role" because it brings up the "when did Howie not be in his old role and why, and what now?" And they aren't going to go there. Eskin will try and a few others to get something around this - and Lurie will get uncomfortable and push it aside and move on.

We'll get very very little actual information other than what we know. Doug is in, his coaches are such and such They are evaluating the entire roster and looking at schemes and contracts and injury blah blah --

BTW - if I was in the press I'd ask the question like this --

Jeff - are you willing to publicly disclose to the fans how the Eagles organization is structured now, and what role each person plays and specifically, is one person in charge of FA/draft and the 90 man roster - or is it being done by committee, if it is one person who is it?

That way you avoid the trigger term "GM" - frame it as - "what are you willing to tell the public Jeff", he can choose to say "no, we don't discuss our internal org chart and roles with the public" - BUT - if he says, "sure, we'll tell you then he looks like a dope if he doesn't REALLY tell anything concrete.

True, but he resumed that role, per Lurie, once Chip was "released" and they know that there is a ton of fan and press interest around that transition. They can do whatever they want to do regarding that, they have no league obligation to address the fans/press, but I think it shows a tone deafness to the situation to not make Howie/Lurie available to the press before hiring a coach. The majority of fans want to know what the fuck is going on and at this point they are letting a hostile media write the narrative. I guess that doesn't matter because they'll still sellout every game next year and get their share of the TV money, but if they continue to ignore the press and suck, there will be empty seats and/or season ticket holders selling them off below face to the 700 level fans.

I don't disagree, which is why they probably should have done the Howie presser two weeks ago.

Tone deafness has been a theme for Lurie during his ownership.

I get it, but maybe it actually is a committee thing going on right now, and until they get The Guy in here, it really doesn't make sense to bring in for a presser explaining himself bc they will have that guy do it

between trying to get on doug pederson's calendar and moving offices, he didn't have the time.

The proof will be what happens on the field. If the Birds trash out next season, there will be no place for Roseman to hide. If they win, so does he. We'll have to see where we are in twelve months. However, I don't want to hear any crap out of Lurie and Roseman indicating that a poor '16 season was Kelly's fault. If the team bombs, it's on the two at the top.
