Outside?
Does this really work or is this some strange tribal knowledge remedy?
What other remedies do you practice medicine man?
They absolutely work. Helps to break or crush 'em (just pretend they're male). I use 'em inside to keep the critters out. Especially useful in food areas I don't want pesticides. That said, if they were carpenter ants you may have another issue to address.
Good info--thanks!
How can you tell a carpenter ant from a regular ant?
(well, except for the tiny toolbelt, of course)
Size is a good start - longer than a 1/4". Bent antennae. 3 distinct body segments with a smooth thorax.

1/4"? This is not good. We're talking ALOT of bay leaves here! The ones hanging out in the living room were close to 1/2", really distinct segments--I didn't pay attention to their antennae though..... I did spot one who was trying to carry a dead one with him--looked like a scene from an army movie where the soldier bravely carries/drags his injured pal out of danger. Made me wonder if the ants are just real neat freaks, or if the dead buddy is dinner?
Maybe I'll do another round of spraying just in case the first time didn't do the trick--don't like the idea of big ants dining on my walls!
