That said, the second Sopranos season 1 disc has been passed over twice now despite being #1 in my queue. Boo to "short wait" availability!

Welcome to Throttlingville

On another note, why the hell does my spedometer go up to 120 when i can't legally drive that fast anywhere in the US

it's been documented that the more you rent from them, and blockbuster online as well, the longer you have to wait for in demand titles. Sopranos season one is wait listed for me as well on BBonline.

Actually, just Canada. Montana was the last to institute a statewide speed limit, but they did.

Well, yeah, I was well aware of their throttling, as all the issues and lawsuits were well public by the time I signed up last month, and it's explicitly stated in their subscriber agreement. I didn't mind too much; I understand that they gotta make money and that such an approach would probably be more efficient in terms of physical distribution as well as costs on a large scale. But, I gotta say that I didn't expect to get throttled after only four rentals, though.

Even with a bit of out-of-order queue fulfillment and an extra day to deliver here and there, I've still found Netflix to be a good value, especially when you're mostly using it to catch up on old and new classics and TV series from networks that one wouldn't watch enough to justify $18 per month, with only the occasional new release rental thrown in.

Or take your car to a track where you can legally drive even faster than 120!

There are days when you want to be busy, and you have nothing to do. There are days when you want to do nothing, but you're busy.

Thankfully, today's a day where I want to be busy and I have lots to do. Makes the day go by a lot faster that way too.

That whole 80/20 rule so lies. Or is it 60/40? Whatever, this is what really happens. 50% of the people you deal with are pretty prompt getting back to you with information that is essential to you doing your job properly (and doing well by the people's clients), so you expend minimal effort on it (say 10%). Then the other 50% are so exceptionally stupid that instead of spending 90% of your time sorting it out, its more like 150%. Why?

Because people are stupid. Profoundly, horribly stupid. So horribly stupid and wrapped up in themselves that they have actually managed to crack my assistant's quirky icelandic stoicism.

In yesterday's USA Today, there was a story about a plane that crash-landed in Greenland in 1942 and had been under ice for 50 years. The plane was recently recovered and restored and is about to complete its original flight from New Jersey to England. Today, Jetblue CEO David Neeleman apologized for the long delay and promised passengers swift compensation for their inconvenience.

Also in yesterday's USA Today, there was an article about possible troop mental problems caused by continual combat n Iraq. Thirty percent of troops who experience high levels of combat demonstrate signs of anxiety, depression, or acute stress. Army mental health experts recommend a one-month break for every three months of combat. In other words, troops are to follow a work schedule that parallels the one adhered to by their commander-in-chief.

I always read the 80/20 rule as 80% of the effect is caused by 20% of the causes. In other words, in any organization, 20% of the people do all of the work.

I always understood that it was a useful axiom that could apply in several different ways to workload and planning, but fundamentally came down to 80% of your workload will take 20% of your time, and the remaining 20% drives you up the wall screaming with frustration for 80% of the time.

The elevation sling and the recovery position are two of mankind's more elegant solutions. They work with a minimum of effort.

also high up there (though we didn't invent it) is the ol' circulatory system. I love the fact that standard treatment for circulatory shock is get someones legs up, so gravity gets blood back to the vital organs. Simple. Elegant. Very cool.

Can a quadriplegic win that reality show "Last Comic Standing?"

Rosie O'Donnell wants to be the next host of "The Price is Right." If she gets the job, will she close each show by calling for right-wingers to be spayed or neutered? I don't think Rosie would be content to be a traditional game show host. She's someone who has to give her opinion about things. Perhaps she could be the host of a new show that is an amalgam of a game show and a talk show. It could be called, "The Dyke is Right."
