The ban is the only reason we continue to hear about him. Fuck the ban.

He already has the hits record and a bunch of WS rings. So he's not in the HOF, big deal. He seems like a terrible person, let him stay banned.

Guys, Fuck. Pete. Rose. Fuck Pete Rose. Fuck him right in the ass. Seriously. I have no idea why anyone in the world has sympathy for the guy who fucking had it all but pissed it away because he is such an unbelievable, astronomical asshole or why MLB should have to compromise with him. He was a world-class baseball player who did some amazing shit. Yes, he more than fucking deserves to be in the HOF. So why isn't he there? BECAUSE HE IS SUCH AN EGREGIOUS WASTE OF EXISTENCE

You don't think MLB would love to have this big hoopla about stupid fuckwad Pete finally getting 'his day' and blah blah blah? They would but they can't -- b/c the man still can't fucking figure out how to be a human being long enough for it to happen. Good fucking riddance

Considering how the voters are not letting the PED goys in, is rose a lock to be voted in if they lift the ban? I don't think he would. As far as the veterans committee, that's where he would get in, but that would be 15 years down the line. By then he's dead or close to it.

It's just amazing to me that he would continue to bet on baseball. Yes, I know it's supposedly legal betting. Yes, I know MLB gets a big boost from organized fantasy baseball gambling organizations. But Pete Rose was banned from the sport for BETTING ON BASEBALL GAMES. You would think before he went in hat in hand he would actually be able to state convincingly that he had stopped doing the thing for which he was banned. Not, "oh, but if you let me back in baseball, then I'll definitely stop doing this thing that I haven't been able to stop doing for 50 years." I don't think you have to choose between clueless, arrogant and addicted. There's plenty of evidence he's all three.

I don't want a compromise because I feel sympathy for Rose. Like others said, fuck Rose. I just think it makes no sense not to have the guy in the HoF when so many other asshats are already in the hall. The hall should be about history, not punishment. Rose is a big part of baseball history, like it or not. He can be inducted without ceremony. Who knows maybe kids could learn something by reading about his mistakes. In any case, he's a baseball historical figure of importance, so I think he should be in the hof.

This is correct. The HOF passed the rule in 1991.

So i wrote what i wrote and how i wrote it (all CAPS LOCK GINA) to try and be funny about the topic. But i guess my point of view is that MLB isn't upholding the ban b/c of some moral issue, it's out of self-preservation. They can't have players or coaches betting on baseball b/c they can't have players and coaches purposely losing baseball games; more directly they can't have players or coaches throwing WORLD SERIES games. Isn't that the one thing that could still kill MLB?

People bring up PEDs, and it's a fair point. That sucked too. But you could at least say that was out of trying to win. It's my uneducated opinion that all Pete Rose has ever had to do was admit he was wrong, that he has a problem, and show that he's learned from his mistakes; but he's never come close to doing that.

Rose was only banned his eligibility through the BBWA voting process, even without the ban, Rose's eligibility by ballot expired after 2006. The Veterans Committee has always had the power to induct him. Everyone not named Mike Schmidt hate him. He'll get in after he's dead. They're not going to give him the satisfaction and let him earn extra cash that comes along with being the HOF.

my dad has a 70s-ish copy of Ball Four that I brought with me on a road trip in college that I intended to read, but got too sucked in to Moneyball to start before the trip was over.

The deep meaning of all this?

All of the Black Sox are still out so I don't think even dying is getting Rose into the HOF.
