I'll take literally anyone from the Pirates system, mascots, bat boys, and parking attendants included.

Do they have a skinny catcher prospect? You need those.

there's definitely a need for frenchy, with the proper role on a the right team. Neither has ever applied to his phillies employment, though.

I'm trying to imagine that role and team. Help me.

Over the last 3.5 years, he's played for 4 teams, and totaled 1079 PA. He's hitting .227 / .272 / .358 for a .630 OPS and a 72 OPS+ 96 outfielders have 1,000 or more PA over that time, and - you guessed it - Francoeur is 96th in both OPS and OPS+.

He's been fine this season for 4/5 of.

Has a .783 OPS vs. lefties. There's probably value in that. Good emergency reliefer too.

If he's your 4th OF, you have a 90-loss team.

Career .793 vs LHP, but .540-something this year, sub-.400 last year with no playing time, around .540 in 2013, and under .700 in .2012. It's been 4 years since he hit LHP well.

Judging by the pirates lineup they are headed towards 90 losses then.

They're fortunate to this point, as their starting outfielders have played 81,83, and 85 of their 87 games. Not a lot of need. But I'd take Jose Tabata over Francoeur in a minute, anyway.

Maybe they need a nice guy in the clubhouse.

He has the 47th highest OPS among NL OF. Sounds like a decent 4th/5th guy thus far. Open question about whether it continues.

He's had a few big hits and he can hit a HR off the bench. Not many of those guys around these days. I'm not surprised some team would think he's a decent pickup if they don't have to give up much/anything. I'm just surprised that team may be the Pirates, who are usually smart enough not to value the small sample this year over his larger body of work the past few years.

He is a good clubhouse guy, too, and maybe the Pirates feel they need someone to come in and relax guys as they enter the pressure cooker of the playoff race. But that would be a bit weird.

He's performing the way a decent 5th OF would. I don't see why ragging on him because of the role the Phils forced him into does any good

Nothing that we do here does any good. Not sure how that became the bar.

Francoeur is below replacement level, according to both bbref (-0.6) and fangraphs (-0.5). That's kind of the definition of not good enough to be on a major league roster.

How many teams have back up OFs that are above replacement level, I can't imagine there are many......which probably means there are many

According to bbref, most of the roster is at or below replacement level and no one rates higher than "reserve".
