So we're all happy?

Lurking the Flyers HockeysFuture board and they seem thrilled how the 1st round went.

Agreed. I'm always moaning that the Flyers go "off the board' because I admittedly don't know anything. Then a year later the guy they took always seems to have been completely worthy of the selection.

That being said, I'm really happy with what Hextall did last night. Showed good draft awareness to me.

Pretty excited about the Konecny pick. Flyers have had a great history of guys in the 20s, Gagne at 22, Justin Williams at 28, Richards at 24, Downie 29, Giroux 22. They just seem to do well in this range.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Hextall. I just get tired of the revisionist historians acting like Holmgren was some fool who couldn't tie his shoes without help.

He acquired a lot of good talent and actively tried to plug holes each season. The moves didn't always work out, but the team was in contention until pretty much the last two years when they couldn't get by the Rangers.

The place where I'm hoping to see Hextall shine is in the latter rounds. The flyers have (historically) put little effort into scouting non-first round players and this is especially true in Europe. I don't know if they just think the picks are a bunch of lottery tickets or if waiting four or five years for a guy to make your team is worth not using that to get a veteran player today. There are a few teams who have come up with late-round talent consistently. The kings are one such team. Hopefully that mindset has traveled here with Hextall.

This.

If Hextall can keep the things that are good in place (1st round track record) while fixing the problem areas (valuing non-1st round picks, understanding the salary cap better, and being more patient with young players) the Flyers will be on their way to being a real contender.

Says something that they didn't offer up #7 for Dougie Hamilton: that seems like a move Clarke/Holmgren would have done even though the team doesn't have the space to sign him at what he wants. I like this new, patient approach.

Drafted a goalie
“I don’t coach losers, I only coach winners.” Mike Krzyzewski

Tom Brady bereft on the turf, it has literally been ripped from his grasp

Sanheim and this Ivan cat seem like they could be an elite pairing.

Another goalie? Matej Tomek

Hakstol recruited him to ND, will play there next year.
