Hex & Hacks: Flyers 2015 Offseason

FREEP

Babcock does like winning, which is why whatever lengths Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan goes to to deliver Babcock might not be enough. The Leafs are in such disarray, it will take time to undo. The Flyers are a likelier landing spot, because, while there are areas to address, there's a good core in place.

Gotta read this thread more often. I had no idea there was an all-Mose minor league playoff series going on

Since our beat writers mostly suck, I enjoyed this in-depth piece from Bill Meltzer on the draft and some of the young guys we have on the way: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Bill-Mel ... t/45/68355

Am I wrong to think this team is headed in the right direction? 2 star players. A maturing, talented goalie. A GM with a plan/history.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

I'll let you know after the coach is picked.

Right direction? Sure, but we need a top line winger in the worst way. Like the pieces and plan a lot but we solve that gaping hole and we are back

Well they had that coming into the season and this year didn't go well. Lot's to undo from the Homer years. Hextall also has not proven it as a GM because as I think he was just an Asst GM with the Kings.

Definitely looks better than Homer though but who knows.

Jake raised his game to a different level; Mason proved that when healthy he's a goalie that can take carry you; and Hextall managed to make some solid, in-season moves. The season was a disappointment, sure, but I think we're in a pgood spot.

Flyers signed Swiss 6'3" 210 d-man Christian Marti to an entry-level deal

Without a number 1 d-man will another winger really matter?

We may have that person in the organization. It's not like we are pinning all of our hopes on one defenseman, there are 4.

What do you think the odds are one of them becomes a no.1 defenseman ?

How many "#1 dmen" are even in the league? I think a few of the prospects have the chance to be pretty good. That will go a long way.

It's a bonus if Morin becomes Pronger but if all 4 are really good, we are going to be fine for a long time

You hate to jinx a player by touting them too much but Sanheim's growth this season has been beyond expectations. Recently an analyst put Sanheim and a young Duncan Keith in the same sentence. He could be a very special player. Morin may not be at that level but he's not far below Sanheim. Both Ghost and Hagg are seen as legitimate second pairing players with the Flyers in the next two seasons. This bunch is good; real good.
