Just rode the elevator with Gary Maddox. His furniture business is in my building but I've only seen him a few times in the 7 years I've worked here. First time in the elevator too.

I was two people behind him in airport security about 6 weeks ago, he was wearing his 1980 WS ring

My "cool story bro" moment...caught a Gary Maddox foul ball at a game in 1980 at the Vet when I was 10.

I sat beside him at the first screening of the movie about Whitey.

I watched a movie about one great CFer while sitting beside another. GLM was my favorite player as a kid.

Hope every one of you asked him about the dropped fly ball in the 1978 NLCS.

Just bought tickets for the 2015 home opener. It'll by my 36th straight home opener and the 14th straight for NotSoGrizzledRookie.

I had a streak going with home openers, but I find myself caring less and less about going. If I do it, I'm buying it through stub hub so at least I'm buying from a season ticket holder that had already purchased them.
Together we will win this game against the evil Space Yankees! Eat Fresh!

Is that that year it snowed or was it the year before? I went skiing right after the game.

a guy berated me because i stepped aside instead of attempting to catch a scorched thome batting practice homer. couldn't feel my hands but i'm sure it would've been broken.

Yeah, that game sucked. I was there with mozartpc27 and, curiously, my wife, who doesn't like baseball. That didn't help

Cameron pegged hamels value at joe kelly and two good but not great prospects. The rigid FG thinking on some things is comical.

Sidebar, only tangentially related to Hamels:

I am convinced that mediocrity is overvalued by the sabermetrically inclined baseball establishment. A 4 WAR player is worth more than 2x as much as a 2 WAR player, and 2 WAR player is worth more than 2x a 1 WAR player.

If a 10 WAR player like Mike Trout became available as a free agent, today, he would be worth 80MM on a 1 year deal. If any of these superstars would stop selling themselves short and take shorter deals, they might be surprised what kind of deals they could get on a year-to-year basis. How risk averse should you be if you've already made $50MM?

Look at what the White Sox are throwing money at.... They just spent all that money for less than 10WAR. I can't imagine what Detroit would spend on Trout on a 1 year deal.

I think you're onto an interesting track here, but exorbitant one-year deals would also limit your market to just clear-cut contenders. And how many of them can absorb that kind of money in any given year?
