The PK line doesn't do its job. The other bottom six line is terrible on defense and can't score. Time to make some moves. If there's no help at LV and trades can't improve the roster, it's going to be a long season.

Holmgren made some bad moves. There is no doubt. However Hextall is the guy now. He put together this roster. It stinks. He kept Berube as the coach and that's not looking too good either. He has the power to make changes. Don't screech at the players/coach; make changes.
Bringing up Laughton looks to be a good move though one could question why he wasn't on the roster to begin the season. Maybe there are a couple other Phantoms that could do better than a few guys on the bottom six of the forwards? Maybe Murray would be better behind the bench?

I'd love the explanation of what, exactly, Hextall was supposed to do when he was hired. This isn't a video game, Hextall didn't turn things on easy and trade Brayden Schenn for Pavel Datsyuk.

Holmgren left him with Lecavalier's contract, Streit, MacDonald, and L. Schenn. The defense needs an overhaul. It won't be an overnight thing. There is plenty of young talent on the roster. Let things shake out a bit before jumping on Hextall's nuts after 17 games.

It's just hard to believe people were still defending Homer last year. That MacDonald deal makes me sick to my stomach.

Seriously, how awful is RJ Umberger? He honestly may be the worst player in the NHL if you take salary into account. He is flat out done as an NHL player and we are now stuck with him for what, another 2 years?

Hartnell was a clown but at least he produced once in a while. Umberger is toast.

Also, this organization has completely destroyed Couturier. He went from coming out of the draft as a dynamic goal scorer to now slogging along as and under performing "shutdown" (LMAO) defense-first center. It's sickening. He's a guy who will never reach his potential here and hopefully for his sake they move him to a team that will allow him to do so.

The Flyers really screwed themselves with the Hartnell deal. I just wish they could have found dead weight with a shorter commitment than Umberger.

That appears to be Hextall's first mistake. If there are more, he'll be fired in due time, but I can't be angry at the guy yet. Get back to me in 4 years.

Maybe not exactly a mistake in the long run.
I'm down on Hextall for other things than the Hartnell trade. (1) The roster that he constructed looked weak with the bottom six forwards and that has proven to be true. VdeV and Akeson stand out as guys that don't belong here. (2) The defense looks too slow and unable to handle the puck either on the stick or passing it. There has to be a way to put together a defense where both Schenn and Grossmann are on the blue line for a game. One of those guys per game is enough. (4) IMO Ghost deserved more of a shot than he got. Was he up to NHL standards? Not in all aspects of his game but in some ways he had skills that the club needs. He certainly didn't deserve having the GM stating to the press that he was going to watch him like a hawk for his deficiencies. (5) Emery is not good enough to be a NHL back up goal tender. His lack of lateral movement is a killer. I admire his heart but his hips say no.
(6) Berube is not skilled enough as a coach to be the head guy. He gets schooled constantly by other coaches-ex. Vigneault on Wed. nite. The Rags knew every tendency that the team had and took them apart with that knowledge. Berube had not counter to anything. This happens too often.
Obviously Hextall knows all about the roster deficiencies. Hopefully he will be able to make moves to help clean that up. Also the way that he has discussed Laughton's call up with the press shows that he knows that he was to harsh with Ghost. I suspect that he'd like a re-do with the entire situation.
After working with Sutter in LA, Hextall knows good coaching when he sees it. When he is incited to go ape on his players in the locker room after a game, questioning the capabilities of your coach has to have entered Hextall's mind. He'll probably move Berube to another position; better sooner than later.

-Renberg was absolute shit in Wayne Gretzky 3D hockey on N64 and really killed that entire line/my enjoyment of the game. Also, when you get to the point (based on excessive turbo checking) when Lindros is obligated to fight (in my case, always against Lemieux bc my friend always picks the asshole Penguins and then beats him with button mashing), it's really sobering to see him lose and fall to the ice in a heap, given his real life struggles with head injuries
