Brown’s ISO was over .280 for just over 60 games. That’s not indicative of his ability, especially when his career in the minors at that point was well below .150, and from then on it’s remained around .150.
Brown was overhyped based in part on his athleticism, which masked serious flaws in his baseball skillset. Brown just wasn’t as good as that 60+ game stretch, and when he didn’t approach that production in the majors, the Phillies started tinkering with his swing mechanics. It wasn’t his mechanics, it's just he was never a .280 ISO player, but much closer to that .150 ISO batter that he always was and pitchers found him out. And when his defense turned out to be below average, the flaws in his baseball skillset were even more emphasized.

"Mike Adams needs 43 more innings to vest his 2015 option. As a veteran pitcher, we owe it to him to help him get there. I've had several conversations with Ryno, and as soon as he is done in Allentown, we're going to make sure he pitches in as many innings as humanly possible at the major league level".
