Middleton wants Gillick to be the president

I believe he took over Claire Betz's former share

It definitely seemed at the time and even more so now that Gillick replacing Monty was more than just care taking

the entire front office is going to have to be filled with powerful stoners if they want this to work.

As sad as it is for Montgomery to have cancer, and I wish him all the best, Middleton taking over as majority owner would be excellent for the future of this franchise. I do believe Montgomery was the driving force behind the lack of change in this organization and the archaic manner in which it has always operated. If Middleton takes over, then I believe this franchise will finally arrive in the 21st century with a real emphasis on analytics, and not the front they've been putting on the last year, where they acted like they cared about it. Amaro's job is less safe, because Amaro is like a son to Montgomery, and with Gillick as president, we have the guy who is a proven champion back to making key decisions.

If true, this new is very promising. If there is one owner of this organization that actually cares about winning first, it's Middleton. Gone are the days of the good ol' boy network.

Hopefully.

Thanks!

I also like the tidbit that says the Phillies are ready to eat Howard's money and move on under Middleton. That tells me that getting younger is a real primary focus, and not just when it is convenient for them monetarily.

Hopefully the next order of business is Yasmani Tomas, and more emphasis on international players as well.

here's the Eskin segment:

So glad Montgomery's gone. He hired TMac too. He deserved to go just for that.

Only bad thing is, I don't see any evidence of the emphasis on analysis coming. Everything that's been said has been they need "baseball people". And I don't see Gillick suddenly doing things different from what got him into the HOF. It's still a step up from before though. And they have made some inroads with analytics recently with the extern.

Amaro has referred to analytics "people," fwiw

Completely agree with Shadow's take, which CD has actually been putting forth for weeks on the other board

I'll be happy if they simply place performance ahead of loyalty.

I actually posted this on here months ago. A hearty shout out to those of you who PM'ed me and called me a liar.

This has been in the works for years now. He just has to get them to agree to change the ownership agreement and the team is his.

Dingdingding.

(This probably will push them toward some embrace of analytics, though I completely agree it's a means to an end rather than an end in itself.)
