Monty and, to a lesser extent of late, Giles are the problem there. That's from a close friend who took two of the owners on a long trip for work recently

This is good stuff

Dingdingding.

(This probably will push them toward some embrace of analytics, though I completely agree it's a means to an end rather than an end in itself.)

Right. The strategy is performance first. The tactics, e.g., analytics, should then follow naturally.

Ditto. You win with ball players. That's what this club needs. Somehow replace Howard and Brown with folks who aren't the bottom of the barrel both offensively and defensively. Get some starting pitchers from somewhere who are above average. Also need some good luck. Getting a good understanding that using both alleged old school scouting and new school analysis is possible and preferable.

Shouldn't be THAT hard should it?

They couldn't possibly run the organization any worse, so any change is, by definition, an improvement
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I think the optimism is adorable. I'll withhold judgment until I see an actual change.

Completely agree with Shadow's take, which CD has actually been putting forth for weeks on the other board

You're shitting me with the CD thing, right? That's not support of a position, that's the kiss of death.

Shore, I think the big thing is what will be a change from Montgomery to an unwavering loyalty to crap. That seems pretty legit, based on several things we've read here and some things I've also heard.

If our offseason is an ownership reshuffle, Gillick as a president, and firing Wolever, then it means nothing.

If we dump Amaro, it's a win.

If it's somewhere in between, we'll see. I like the IDEA of a change, but a change from current Phillies employees to other current Phillies employees is worrisome. Other teams (and dare I say industries) employ talented people, too. Wait, forget the "too" part.

I think if you are expecting everything to happen over one offseason, then yes, be disappointed. i don't want to be called a liar like brantt, but i heard some things in august that were really surprising. that, coupled with what others have said on here, makes me more optimistic.

The off season is what? Four days. You could be right on but let's give it at least two weeks.

i also think we can do worse than gillick, who despite loves his baseball guys, has shown a propensity for finding really valuable players
