Still the preseason for everyone....

...and now it isn't

btw Hextall denied Bob McKenzie's report that the Flyers are trying to trade L.Schenn or Grossmann to make room for Morin

Would love to know how Morin or Ghost couldn't play ahead of del zotto or grossman at this point.

Morin or Ghost are hopefully #1/#2 defenders. You don't play them on this team when they won't sniff PP time most likely, and will be playing 3rd pairing minutes.

At least with Ghost he can play on the PP and log first pairing minutes with the Phantoms. Morin is more difficult.

Save for Streit, not one player on the flyers warrants more power play time than Gostisbehere.

Tell that to Hextall.

they really need to update the ahl rules. one year after your draft you should be able to play there. so many young d are way above junior but not NHL ready. like morin. dumb to make them decide and not have minors be an option.

Probably true.

Gostisbehere has to get bigger and stronger though. Not sure he could handle the grind of a full season right away.

I get that Gostisbehere has a chance to be amazing, but why are people in such a rush to have him play on the big club, especially right away? The reward is not worth the risk of screwing his development up. If he lights it up on the Phantoms, then bring him up.

The worst thing that can happen is he starts with the Flyers, struggles, then is buried on the 3rd line with no PP time or then sent down to the Phantoms and has a confidence issue.

Some of the guys on the Flyers blue line are bigger and stronger and still can't handle the grind of a full season. Too slow, can't pass, and weak above the shoulder pads.

Yeah, but they just suck in general.

Gostisbehere has a chance to be really good. Let him ease in to the pro game in the AHL and if he does well then call him up. There's no reason to throw him into the fire immediately.

The 9-game free trial that Morin can do, it either has to be now or when his season is over, right?

Gost isn't an eighteen year old kid right out of juniors. He can help this team where they need it. To put him on the top pairing and use him on PK and the like would probably be too much for him right now. That doesn't mean that he can't "ease into the pro game" by playing on the PP and against other team's bottom sixes. That would be more beneficial than playing against less than NHL talent in the AHL. TPTB also have to understand that he has never played in a season as long as this one will be for him. Solution-don't use him for 82 games. Give him "maintenance" days.
I get the claim that the team doesn't want to overexpose him. Some bring up the Luca Sbisa example. However, in fairness to the Flyers, the drop off in his play came after he was seat to Anaheim. Also here he was jockeyed around between defense and forward on occasion. I'd hope that Gost would be handled better than that.

I totally disagree.

He should be playing 20-25 minutes a night in the AHL in all situations. The AHL is a weekend league so that schedule will be more beneficial to him.

What's the longest season Ghost has ever played? 50 games? Unrealistic to expect him to make the NHL roster out of camp and think he will be fine all year

True. That is where coaching comes in to play. He shouldn't be playing twenty minutes a night every night. Give him maintenance time.

Would you rather see Schultz or MDZ out there instead of him? If Morin can benefit more by being with the Flyers than in junior hockey, Gost can benefit more by being up with the Flyers than paying against lesser talents in the AHL even if all that he does is practice with the big club.

Again, what is the rush? I think everyone agrees this team is probably going to be fighting for the #2 or #3 spot behind Pittsburgh in a best case scenario this season, with the worst case fighting to make the playoffs. It is a long season, especially if you make a playoff run.

You can't expect Ghost to play 70+ regular season games then playoff games in his first year.

I'd rather see what MDZ has, he was good not too long ago and isn't long in the tooth.

It's crazy to think he just turned 24 this summer.

And I still think Ghost is on the team sometime around the trade deadline. Instead of making a move to shore up the defense, they can bring up this dynamo

Looks like Sam Morin has been sent back to his junior team.
