Of course employees of the team are going to be optimistic in their public statements. But it doesn't seem too much to hope for that a baseball GM would grasp the lameness of complaining about bad injury luck when the team he's assembled is really old. Either he's really stupid, or he thinks the fans are.

I'm shocked. Shocked that there is gambling going on in this establishment.

Your winnings sir.

Thank you.

FFS. The Phillies have been talking in random double speak for years and years. I'm pretty sure we collectively figured that out a while ago.

Yeah right.

Amaro should definitely just come out and say the team is old and not that good.

That's exactly what a good GM would do.

In fact, here is a comprehensive list of GMs who do stuff like that:

I will make posts about my favorite prospect. I have about 30 of them so there's that.

Plus, I like talking about reliefers and RBI men.

So there's 50 or 62 high quality posts right there.

And if I can catch a game live I'll try to a William Carlos Williams style thread or something.

God damit at least I tried. Just like R. P. McMurphy.

What do you expect him to do?

We couldda traded Utley and Rollins and Hamels and Chooch back in 09 or 10.

Then we could have built the team around guys like C. J. Henry and Phillippe Aumont and J. C. Ramirez.

Hey. Amaro did some great things and we were real good for a few years and won 102 games and had a guy throw a perfect game and a post season no hitter and we went to World Series and playoffs and stuff.

Now we kinda suck and Amaro has been fairly clueless.

But we all know that.

His actions reflect he's trying to kinda keep the team from going all Astros and stuff but not wasting a bunch of money on the gorgeous left handed swing of that Hamilton guy or B. J. Upton or guys like that.

I'd like to see the Phils have a nice season this year. Also, it would be nice if Amaro accidentally did some heinous thing that pisses off Montgomery and we get a new GM maybe even that broad. (NG is her name and I'm a big fan).

That would be a helluva nice year in my view.

how so? they doubled down the year after they won 102 games and it all went to shit. just because their moves have been terrible, doesn't mean they don't currently know this team is bad. i really can't believe you can be that dumb and be the GM or any kind of decision maker for an MLB team.

resigning all of the old players who were declining was the real mistake, not what's happened since.

if i can't get to the cautious ruben amaro, who expects attempts on his life ill make sure to take out tom mccarthy, a lonely man who will provide me with an easy opportunity to murder him.

Probably no need to kill yourself afterwards. You might be able to plead the BSG crazy defense. We have some lawyers here who could help with your defense. If not, I could lend a hand. I was pre law. Either that or pre med. What's the difference?

Carlos Ruiz didn't make Bill James' top ten catcher list. But he said if he's healthy, Chooch is a top five catcher.

The Phils win a lot of games when Howard isn't hurt.

All we need is for our 35 year old guys to not get hurt this year.

Seems like a good bet to me.

And did we have any idea Ryan was going to pull an Achilles tendon? Really, an Achilles? How do you account for that? You don't."

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phi ... Ue3E1tH.99

Howard had been having problems with the ankle for weeks preceding this injury. He had been trying to continue to play, but was having a difficult time remaining on the field. Without time to rest before the playoffs, Howard opted for an injection of cortisone around the area of the Achilles tendon. The injection took place about 2 weeks before his tendon rupture.

Injecting cortisone around the Achilles tendon is very controversial. Injections into the tendon are known to increase the likelihood of tendon rupture, and injections into the surrounding soft tissues may have similar effects. Usually, if an injection is considered, a lengthy period of rest to avoid tendon ruptures will follow the injection.
