I guess if I performed as he has over the last few years, I'd change my name, too.

So I guess we are reducing payroll by ~10-15 million this year? Hazzuh!

They can't seriously think they're going to compete.

Team upside as it stands is .500 ball, and that's if we have a bunch of things go right.

Carmona may have been the least interesting guy out there. It's like they are trying to be bad. A team with our payroll signing so many guys with little upside is inexcusable.

I can't decide if I should be livid or amused.

They can compete if Chooch reverts to 2012 form, Howard comes back surprisingly strong, Utley at least maintains 2013 production, Jimmy finds new life, Asche is a revelation, Dom continues to improve, Revere hits as he did when he was injured and improves defensively, Byrd repeats 2013, Hamels and Lee are dominant, MAG turns out to be great, Papelbon rediscovers his velocity and the other relievers improve dramatically. But the chances of all, or even most, of that happening are just so small that it's not much more than a fantasy.

That's a bit dramatic, imo. That would basically be seven or eight borderline all star hitters, three great starting pitchers (with good back-end depth), and a great bullpen

Point taken, though. I'm gonna be bummed if there's no larger move coming

Gee, and I figured they'd wait until after the Hernandez presser.

That sounds like the strategy through the early 2000s, the latter Ed Wade years.

That sounds about right. So you're saying there's a chance?

Re: Fausto Roberto Carmona Henandez, it just seems like we're going after interesting backstories now.

It's funny how a few year's ago it seemed like the Phillies would pass up on people because they weren't "character" guys. Now it's like The Dirty Dozen.

marlon anderson was worth 2.6 fwar one year. I find this funny for some reason. Like I want them to run the numbers again and again.

Desi Relaford played parts of 11 seasons in the majors, in 9 of them, he had a 0 or negative WAR, but in the middle two, he had 2 years of 2 WAR each.

Those have to be bullshit one-off defensive numbers. Marlon sucked.
