As bad as Jimmy's been this season, SS is such an atrocious position right now that his three-year value will still likely exceed the cost of the contract. The vesting option might be a problem though. Who else? Chooch is likely going to be allowed to walk, the pitchers are all gone except for Cole and Kyle, and the rest of the position players are long gone. The current roster is terrible, but let's not exaggerate the problems.

Jimmy may earn out his contract according to FG's notoriously-inflated values, but that doesn't mean it's translating to wins. And, of course, nobody was offering him a 3-year deal (let alone an easily-optained 4th-year vesting option) when he was re-signed.
Rollins wanted a four-year deal all along, and he told MLB.com over the weekend he was offered one by Milwaukee. While he didn't mention the Brewers by name at Monday's news conference, he did make several references to "the blue and gold."
"I had a four-year deal on the table, but it wasn't necessarily with a team that I could have seen myself playing for," Rollins said.

Cliff Lee is not getting traded today according to #source
Doug Melvin said he did not make a formal offer to Jimmy Rollins, he was set to have a meeting with Dan Lozano the representative of Rollins but they cancelled it. But at the time of the Winter Meetings, Lozano was pretty busy with Albert Pujols so the Brewers decided it was better off to move on. They were talking with Alex Gonzalez at the same time, they ended up signing him before they left Dallas.

We gave a mid-30's reliever coming off surgery to remove a rib a two-year deal. By my count that makes at least 6 multi-year contracts (Howard, Utley, Rollins, Lee, Papelbon and Adams) Rube will have handed out for players who will be on the roster next year. And that's not counting the Hamels contract, which was the only one for a player on the south side of 30.
