I would've been shocked if he hadn't.

This is a good read.

You gain more from not being stupid than you do from being smart. Seems relevant to Phils discussions.

Literally no excuse not to trade Young by 4.

i think "he sucks so bad nobody wants to give anything worthwhile up for him" would count as one, and is very realistic

I know he has been pretty bad but I am surprised no one wants Ruiz for a couple months.

Point, though, is that every AB he takes is one more AB you could have used to get a look at the kid.

Yeah that would've been the only true disaster. No compensatory draft pick for him considering the -10000000% chance of a qualifying offer. At least Chooch will likely get a qualifying offer.

He's not totally worthless as a DH/1B. I also don't expect to get anything better than a AAAA-level reliever for him.

Did you not see his home run last night? Or the way he ran around the bases like a leader?

If Chooch gets a QO, Rube should be fired

Except he doesn't suck that bad and there's been reports of interest from different sources.

I'd never thought of it that way, but it's a very interesting point.

The problem for Phils fans is that, if the Phils' front office refuses to engage in that sort of statistical/economic analysis at all, does their "smart" truly negate the other teams' "smart"?

Crap, I keep forgetting it's not like the NFL franchise system (where they look at the same position only). Yeah, you're right, no way is he getting a qualifying offer of 1yr/$13M (ish).

But what about the reports that practically the whole AL East + Texas is interested? So that's four offers you can play off each other and stuff.

Not if he is only willing to go to two of those teams.

Ken now says the Cards want a catcher.

Honestly, I can't imagine there being a better catcher on the market than Chooch for a team that just needs a band-aid for 2013. Hope this happens. Probably for a prospect who is in the 18-30 range in the Cardinals system.
