So, I can't say I've seen much of him play, but he rates very highly as a defender on FG. In 700 ML PA, he has a .332 wOBA with 15 HR and 31 SB.

If he played tonight, he would be our best player in the OF
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I'd say this is indication enough that this is a stupid idea.

Most of that damage was done his first two years in MLB: 2008-2009. Since 2009, not so much.

baseball and basketball are completely different. Go look at the Giants roster last year. The Phils are 1 Buster Posey and a decent bullpen away from being the same team as them and they won the WS.

And the same people saying they should sell everything are the ones who'd be crying the loudest when they're winning 70 games the next 3 years without Utley/Lee.

I know baseball and basketball are different. The point is that this is a mediocre team just like the Giants were. I would hope that we are not relegated to hoping for lightning in a bottle like what happened with the Giants last year. This should be an elite franchise. A bad year or two is not the end of the world.

All you need to do is get into the playoffs and it's a crapshoot. You don't need to be an elite team in baseball.

I mean, my biases aside, they're not that far from contending right now, with $50M+ on the DL. Who are you scared of? The '27 Yankees aren't walking through that door

But even if they were, it's not like they're gonna cut payroll to $50M and play all kids. Or that we have a can't-miss 2B in the wings, as much as I like Cesar

I'm in my car so I can't check, but aren't the braves 100 runs or so better than us this year through 100 games? I mean including runs scored and allowed. It's close to that at least. Not the 27 Yankees, but they are better than we are. Their lineup has to be 3 years younger than ours, and with Hudson dead, their staff probably is too.

The Phillies have 2 regulars or semi-regulars with an OPS+ of 120 or over (not counting Ruf). Last year's Giants had 6.

It is better to be the Yankees than than to be the Giants. We are not going to be the Yankees. We are not going to get back to an elite level by keeping our heads above water and wishful thinking.

I understand what you're saying, William, but I'd still like to be able to man three outfield positions. Feel like having only two out there would be a black eye.

It's time to stop living in the past. The Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Carlos Ruiz and even Chase Utley of a few years ago are gone forever. It's time to stop thinking that one or two more players could be the difference in dragging this decaying corpse of a roster across the finish line.

Utley is having his best year in 4 years, so I guess you are right the Utley of a few years ago is gone.

How about the Utley who had 5 consecutive years of over .900 OPS, wise guy?
