This is my wish and hope. After the fire sale we make the moves for the rest of the season. See who we move and what we get. Then reset. We could still even be contenders after that because we could easily add by subtracting with this team. Yeesh.

Wish Larry Bowa was a GM. He likes Young, Papelbon and Utley. He'd give up a lot to get one or two of them.

Cesar has 3 errors in 13 games in CF, they probably want to keep him down there to learn the position better.

Wednesday on the team’s official Website, an advertisement promoting next week’s three-game series against the Giants featured a picture of Utley. Two of those games come after the trade deadline. Would the Phils use a player they were planning to trade to promote a series that comes up right after the trade deadline? Doubtful.

hard to refute concrete evidence like that!

An Utley extension would really take the sting off this mediocre season though, and I do think he'll be extended soon.

Would also take edge off of sell off

Amaro had long meetings with Manuel and coaches last night

Nate Schierholtz is having a pretty good season, .277/.334/.521 with 13 homers. Why didn't we tender him a contract again?

Would have cost @ $2.5M on top of Nix's $1.35M to tender Nate and dump Nix. Which it certainly appears they should have.

I wonder if Utley is being signed means that Rollins is being moved.

Especially since they are going to end up paying Delmon about $2m anyway to take the ABs that Scherholtz would have taken. Maybe a 2 win difference so far + whatever limited trade value Schierholtz might have.

It wasn't a catastrophic mistake by any means, but it was a silly, unnecessary one triggered by the even stupider Nix signing.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

Yeah, another mistake was not seeing Nate as a mostly-everyday OF. But I can't blame them too bad for that. The Giants didn't, either, and I didn't really have a strong feeling there

Francisco Liriano makes less than Laynce Nix this year. Pretty outstanding signing.

Yes on all counts. It never made any sense. They got rid of a kinda cheap, controlled, moderately productive player to take a gamble that Delmon Young would be a kinda cheap, moderately productive player. But the roster was TOO LEFT HANDED!
