Zolecki...

A strong performance this week in St. Louis and Detroit and the Phillies could be buyers before the July 31 Trade Deadline.

A poor performance and they seem likely to sell.

But they still believe they have a chance to make the postseason, which is why they will watch free agent relief pitcher Brian Wilson throw Thursday in Los Angeles. Wilson is 15 months removed from Tommy John surgery. He threw Monday for the Giants, but Thursday’s session is expected to include numerous teams looking for bullpen help.

Seems like the definition of a low-risk, high-reward move in the pen for the stretch run.

I can't handle Papelbon and Wilson together on my favorite team.

this series seems like the time for the deathblow

will still be interested to see what happens. amaro should be able to move young for something, so will be cool to get a look at asche. and hopefully Roy comes back looking good and ready to sign another below market deal

Or can we just put his and Howard's contract in with Detroit's bankruptcy proceedings and have them washed away?

Selling guys like Youngs and Ruiz won't really even make the team any worse. If you can get rid of the jerkoff closer, even better.

Would love to see what kind of haul you could get for Lee

Rollins should go. His wOBA and wRC+ are down considerably. His ISO is about half what it was last year. And in case anybody thinks he's been unlucky, his BABIP is up by more than 10%.

Worse yet, his fielding and base running have fallen to around league average. IOW, the things that made Jimmy special -- speed, power and excellent fielding -- have vanished.

Somebody has to really want him, though. It's not like you gain anything just by getting rid of Rollins. There's no clear successor in the minors and he's still league average among regular shortstops offensively and (I watch the games) I think slightly above average in fielding.

But right now you'd have to shell out lots of money anyway and almost certainly accept a downgrade at the position. Unless there's really a surprising offer I don't see why it's not better to hold on and hope for a second half resurgence, which is not totally out of the question.

Galvis is a superior fielder to Rollins right now and is closing in on Jimmy in terms of offensive production. He's already got an ISO close to twice Jimmy's. His overall offensive numbers are inferior to Rollins' this year, but he's been unlucky. One is declining, the other is ascending. I'll take ascending. YMMV.

BTW, in addition to Jimmy's lost power, this year he's 9 of 15 in SB. 2010 - 2012 he stole 77 bases and was caught 14 times.

What is this obsession the Phillies have with Michael Martinez? It's beyond absurd.

Stop gap I guess. They want Hernandez to play CF in AAA and Galvis to play every day is my thought. Quintero wasn't worth anything. Martinez can run a little and play some positions OK. He stinks but I see the point of him on the roster. He will probably be back in AAA after the fire sale.
