you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Gelb was actually thoughtful and fair -- the most interesting thing was Brown telling him that being told he was playing every day last year after Pence was dealt was the key to his improvement. He was relaxed for the first time and came to Clearwater with much higher confidence.

Susdorf is headed to STL per Gelb.

EDIT - could be waiting in the wings should they DL Dom.

sounds like he's never seen utley play a game and just happened upon his stats so he wrote a few paragraphs about it like utley has been some well hidden secret all these years

He's been incredible. I made a list of the top 20 second basemen, which includes all the Hall of Famers except Johnny Evers, Red Schoendienst, and Bill Mazeroski. Then I figured their Wins+ per 162 games. Here are the top six:

1. Rogers Hornsby (9.1)
2. Chase Utley (7.4)
3. Nap Lajoie (7.3)
4. Jackie Robinson (7.3)
5. Eddie Collins (7.1)
6. Joe Morgan (6.1)

Your mileage may vary, of course, and Utley's figure will drop as his career winds down. But he's essentially been a perfect player, with the walks and the power and the defense and the baserunning ... except for one missing ingredient: durability. He's played at least 140 games in just four seasons

A great player. Great defense. Very good on base skill. Great slugger. One of the best percentage base stealers ever. A great player.

He'd be a sure Hall of Famer if he could have started earlier and stayed on the field more. How many Hall of Famers didn't become regulars until they were 26?

Boggs had a late start. But he was Rookie of the year at 24 and a star at 25. He also played about twice as many games as Utley (so far).

The Phillies had recent talks with Chase Utley's represenation about a contract extension, reports Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com. Salisbury also notes that the Phillies are not listening to trade offers for their second baseman, they did include him in a post-trade deadline promotion, and GM Ruben Amaro Jr. was "recently been spotted huddling for private conversations at the ballpark" with Utley.

Susdorf is 27 and a career .300 hitter in the minors. Hitting .335 at Lehigh with an .847 OPS. Lefty hitter. Was member of College WS champ Fresno State club. Also an Academic All American so he smart. Might even know his WAR and UZR.

I think we actually got the better brother as there is another Susdorf who had a brief minor league career who,is three years older and is also from Valencia, CA.

Almost certainly Susdorf will actually suck but I like when guys like him come up. Makes the games watchable.

Remember in 2010 when we were having the same debate about buying or selling, we were about 7 GB at the time and struggling. We traded for little Roy and went on a huge run and finished with 97 wins and a birth in the NLCS.

That will not happen this year. SELL

I can see Utley getting into the HOF. He's avoided any steroid rumors, won a WFC, and has the grit thing going for him. I'd vote for him.

I still think the team won't contend before Utley fades, but I'm OK with not dealing him at the deadline and making him a qualifying offer. I do not - as much as he's my favorite player on the team - understand a 3 year deal at $15M/YR. Makes very little sense to me.
