There are 197 hitters in MLB right now that have been worth .5 WAR or more. The Phillies have 4. Two of whom aren't playing (Utley and Kratz).

NIce work.

Fangraphs has Dom and Chase at 1.5 WAR.

I took a fair amount of grief for saying they wouldn't be good this year with Amaro's collection of shitty moves. But the thing is, I underestimated how bad they would be. I underestimated the suck. This is really depressing. :(

You've been reminding us of your prescience almost daily

The offense, especially, is fucking awful to watch, but they're missing Utley and Ruiz and only three games under. Let's not go full 2010 Fugees

They're also tied for 9th in the league. It's pretty much over.
I'm going to Radio Shack to buy one of those headsets like the broadcasters use. It seems as soon as you put them on, you get 100 times smarter.

They were 37-51 last year on July 13th, gave away two of their best three hitters and a starting pitcher, and got to within three games of the wild card in late September

We're reaching the point where they're pretty clearly what they look like. Above-average starting pitching which may or may not be sustainable. Lousy offense. Lousy defense. Lousy relief. Can't beat bad teams, give away at-bats, not very well managed in a tactical sense.

If Amaro deserves credit for anything, it's avoiding the big mistake of commission: overpaying for Upton or Hamilton or anybody else whom we'd have, and owe tens of millions to, instead of Crawford. Most of the moves were decent gambles. None of them worked. They all helped preserve the team's freedom of action at this point.

Knowing what we know now, they look like sellers. Murphy, who's insufferable but not stupid, suggests looking to move Pap and Kendrick. Seems like a good place to start, but I'd listen on literally everybody.

I agree with him on the targets. But the thing about potentially eating all of Pap's deal is absurd

Just a note............the Howard, Rollins and Hamels deals were just as much if not more Dave Montgomery moves than Amaro moves.

Yup. He's owed something like $30m through 2015, I think. If they had to cover a chunk of it to get a better return, fine. But you don't start there. I think there will be a pretty good market for him.
