Their money is taken off the bonus pool limit. If they signed for slot they would have the same amount of money for Denton Keys in the 11th. The point is they could have drafted stiffs to sign for 5K and had over $500,000 MORE to sign kids after the 10th. No one was excited about either player, just sucks to lose the bonus money.

Well it's pretty clear they weren't signing for slot, which would have impacted Keys

I understand the argument in theory but I also think the current Phils regime is pretty strong at gauging the signability of draftees in recent years, so though to get on them here

Wetzler:

"Before the draft, I was pretty convinced I was going to sign wherever I got picked, and move on. But a couple days after we got back (from Omaha) something in my belly just wouldn't let me leave."

So 4 of our top 14 picks went unsigned and all of them were from the northwest. Anyone else think the scouts in that area need to be reevaluated, or is it simply bad luck that our 5th and 6th changed their minds after telling us they'd sign?

It's just bad luck. Kids these days. What are you gonna do?

We've had great success in the NW in recent years.

Griffin Jax played at Cherry Creek HS in suburban Denver. Colorado ain't "northwest."
