Pence had a 125 OPS + and was a 3 win(B-R) player in 155 games as a Phillies, I know he was goofy but I don't get the hate, all of his major offensive numbers as a Phillies were similar to a little better than his career averages outside SBs

But his dumbass approach spread like a cancer to the rest of the team. They saw him hit balls thrown everywhere but the strikezone and figured, "Hell, if he can do it, so can I." We still can't get the stink off.

But really, I don't think he played badly for us or anything. I just don't like the way he plays and dislike him on principle for that reason.

my point was it's not like he had a great year last year. he got lucky where he landed and underperformed.

Game Three of the '09 WS really hurt--I was there w Bakestar, dsc and Disco Stu. Pettitte had nothing that night and the Phils just couldn't knock him out. And the Damon thing the next day still gives me the screaming horrors.

I was weirdly sure we were going to win Game Six in the 2010 NLCS right up to the moment we didn't. That obviously wasn't the end of the run, but it was the end of my sense that the Phillies were bulletproof.

By the end of Game Five in the 2011 NLDS I was more alcohol than man. I turned off the tv as soon as the second baseman fielded Howard's groundout, so I actually missed the ankle blowout.

Serious bad luck running across the eventual champs three straight years. But they had so much good fortune in 2008 that I can't really feel cheated or anything.
