No playoffs in over a year for the pro teams. That's not fun

Over-concluding from Kratz's two good months last year is the sort of thing dumb ballclubs do, though, so I guess he'll stay.

Well, I don't' think that over-concluding from Quintero's over 1200 MLB AB's and 59 OPS+ that he can't hit (and can't hit with power) is particularly dumb. Kratz has at least hit with power at every level, and that can be a useful thing to have off the bench, provided he's adequate behind the plate. Many clubs have, of course, had backup catchers whose only talent was their defense. I don't think the 2013 Philllies can afford to be one of them.

I haven't looked at this, but I'd love to see analysis of how often the Phillies get to opponents' bullpens in the middle innings. I'm guessing they're well toward the bottom in that category. They mostly face starters, setup men and closers, is my suspicion, because they simply don't work opposing starters. And when they do so early in games, they don't sustain it. Tonight, Lynn had almost 60 pitches through 3... then set them down on 7 in the fourth. This happens a lot.

Yeah, I never got this. Guy wasn't going to make more than 3 mil in arbitration and is probably worth about a win. He's not as good as he's playing now but he'd sure be welcome now.

You wouldn't have wanted to risk losing Nix.

Anthony Hewitt - mirage or real progress?

Good little story on Philly.com about him - has 3 BBs in 40ish Abs. If he could be a serviceable BJ Upton type big leauger, that would be huge for the Phil's. I always assumed he would go the way of CJ Henry.

In what universe is BJ Upton just a "serviceable big leaguer"?

The Phils have no one in the top 50 of wRC+ so far this year (Chase is 56th and MY10 is 62nd). They have 4 hitters (Revere, Brown, Rollins and Howard) in the bottom 60. Nix and Kratz would be there, too, if they had more PA. On the bright side, JBerry would be tied for 22nd if he had enough PA to qualify.

In the universe where he hasn't posted a .800 OPS in years, hovering around .750 - much of his value is on defense and is OPS is more SLG driven than OBP driven.
