Phillies sign Delmon Young

I guarantee you Ruf is a better defensive OF right now than Delmon Young.

This is all a bad dream, right? Young can't hit, run, field or throw and is a despicable human being. Honestly, Rube could find better players by picking names out of a hat.

Trying to find a word to describe our defense at the corners with Howard, Young, Young, and some combination of Ruf, Brown, Nix.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I would never start an I'm Out thread. I'm never out.

Probably will start a "Using Amaro's Hollowed Out Skull as a Soup Bowl" thread

It really doesn't need much hollowing. Just splitting.

Citizens is actually one of the better parks for Delmon Young, getting him up to proj. 276/308/445 with a ripping 1.0 WAR!

the org obviously doesn't rate brown anymore. i dont think this is some kind of motivation tactic. charlie was brown's biggest supporter for 2 years, but even he was less enthusiastic last season.

the shame of it is that they let his value deteriorate to the point where he'd be a complimentary piece in a trade.

id still love a justin upton deal, using despicable human being in a leftfield platoon or never at all

I just saw Amaro's comments. He said Young himself feels much better in RF than LF but "he has to show us he can play there." So maybe not quite as bad as the initial reports.

In all seriousness, isn't that a really good bargain if he's a 1 WAR player?

Ryan Lawrence

"I didn't like cleaning dog poop." More Delmon Young on his recent community service in NYC.

"I didn’t like cleaning up dog poop," Young said. "It was a dog park and people don’t clean up after their dogs sometimes and we’re left to. A lot of times I just stared at it because it was too soupy.
"That puts some perspective on things, too. Like unnecessary littering, finding syringes out there, cigarettes everywhere, beer cans and then the daily stuff that goes around. You start seeing the dogs everywhere and it makes you realize if you have a dog, clean up after it.
"If I ever do decide to smoke cigarettes, throw it in the trash can. Don'’t litter. Being out there when it was 30 degrees and the wind was blowing, it makes you realize you need to make some good choices. You’'re not going to be out there doing community service next time." #phillies

No. There's really no such thing as a good player who accumulates a 1 WAR in 500 PAs. What you're paying him is pretty much irrelevant.

I think the problem becomes that if he accrues enough playing time to reach that 1.0 WAR threshold, he's probably getting close to those $3 million-ish in incentives.

The Young brothers GIDP'd 83 times in 2011-12. Aw, yeah.

That too.

Regardless, if your everyday RF has a WAR of 1, you should pay more for your everyday RF if you don't want to suck.
