I took it to mean Cleveland did as well as any other team would have under the same circumstances, and they did better than if they had let him walk. Pretty fatalistic tone from Shapiro, but that's how a lot of teams operate whether they admit it or not.

That's awesome, IMO. If a gm makes a trade with you and walks away thinking he got a good deal, then that's perfect. If he was like "that fuck, amaro, sold us damaged goods and a bunch of fringy, at best, douche bags for our cy young winner. I'll never deal with that choad again" that's bad for business. I'm glad he likes what he got, better for us in the long run.

An overlooked factor in these trades is that by theoretically getting worse after the trade, they've improved their own draft position. So there's some type of marginal value there too, whatever that may be.

Kendirk is the type of generic righty strike thrower than teh Twins seem to like

Pretty much what I was thinking. KK plus Castro and Wright, to pull two names semi at random.

so who do you guys have starting next year and who is our first emergency starter? Right now I count 5 starters with KK and 4 without him. That means you need two viable guys and even then you have to hope that Doc isn't broken and Worleybird regains his form and has no lingering injury issues. I know we have a bunch of interesting arms that are close, but I wouldn't want to count on two of them stepping forward. I know we all make (rightfully) fun of Kendrick, but he's entering his prime and came up with a new pitch that seems to have changed his SO rate enough that his better performance may be real. In any case, he's a good #5 or #6. I'm ok with trading him if there are alternatives available, but I just don't see many, unless you plan to overpay in the FA market.

Too many other fires to address, rotation is what it is. I'm sure there will be some reclamation longshot(s) in Clearwater though

According to my Phillies daily calendar (which I'm very far behind ripping out the pages) this guy is an uncle of Dominic[sic] Brown.

One guy mentioned in a BP article regarding prospect trade candidates is Oakland farmhand Grant Green. He's a middle infielder who looks like he might be a hitter. Could solve 3B problem. We need more Greens (and Greenes) in our system anyways.

If Doc, Cliff, Cole , Vance and Papelbon are all healthy next year and pitch close to expectations for the entire year and are strong at end of season, I see no reason why the Phils can't compete for a WFC. Playoffs are their own season, but really don't need Josh Hamilton or A-Rod to to make to playoffs, if those guys are healthy and consistent for a full season.

Posey had a good year, good WAR, but he's not in Pujols Cabrera territory, and Panda missed games. Howard and Utley have to do a bit better of course, but I don't know that the Phils have to make that many bold moves. Just a few smart ones. If there are more injuries and inconsistencies to the pitching, then that's another story. Also, need 1-2 more reliable pen guys. That's doable.

Buster Posey is a good player but he's not the best player, is that what I'm hearing?

He picked two players to compare him to and a case can be made he's better than both them.

Didn't see the whole article, but I imagine Shapiro mentioned that the Tribe got Choo for Ben Broussard from Seattle. That worked out okay.

Also Asdrubal Cabrerra.

Seattle has given up so much talent for next to nothing it's amazing. Phils need to make some use of that market inefficiency.

Laynce Nix and Schwimer for Michaels Saunders or something.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Amaro said talks about an extension for Ruiz would "probably at some point" take place this offseason.

What's the smugometer on that?

I'd prefer we hold off on those talks.
