Since we barely missed the playoffs, you could probably also say this about Utley, Ruiz, Halladay, Billmeyer, Madson, Pedro Feliz, Tom Gordon, Davey Lopes, Worley, Tad Iguchi, and any other non-terrible 2b, 3b, or RP.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I wouldn't say 7GB of the #2 wildcard with 3 other teams ahead of us would be "barely missing the playoffs".

Yeah, but we were closer than that at one point and after it was clear we werent going to catch that last wc the strategy changed from "win at all costs" to "lets get a look at what some of these minor leaguers can do". I doubt we'd have had a bullpen game in the last week if we were really trying, you know.

Juan Pérez is the only pitcher in MLB history to pitch an immaculate inning in a game in which he earned his first career win

and yet i have no recollection of this guy. and it was only last year. :(

in related news, it surprises me that there have only been 49 immaculate innings in MLB history.

That inning was a thing of awesome. Kinda weird he totally vanished.

Baseball is such an amazing game. I was suprised as well to see that it had only happened 49 times, it seems like somethign that would happen with some frequency, 9 straight strikes. It would seem much rarer to hit for the cycle or throw a no-hitter, but it is not. Gotta love the amazing history of the game where we can look back and see what happened a hundred years ago. I think it's really neat to just go through wikipedia or retrosheet or baseball reference and see the history of the game. I really need to get up to cooperstown one of these days.

i was at that game. around the 5th strike i wondered if he could throw 9 strikes in a row. I didn't know about the history of all of that, just that it be would be cool. then he did it.

the end

fuck, can't a guy just wax poetic about the beautiful history of our nation's pastime? The narrative that binds together Barry Bonds to Babe Ruth? The way that my grandfather watched games at Connie Mack cheering for Bunning and Ashburn, and my dad watched them at the Vet cheering for Schmidt and Carlton, and I watch them at CBP cheering for Howard and Hamels. I just think it's awesome. That's all. It was always there and it probably always will. I think shit like that is neat. Hey Grote, what's that behind your ear...
