Based on what I expect they'll get, I want no part of either Hamilton or Bourn. The former just has too many questions to invest heavily in and the latter is a speed-based guy on the wrong side of 30. Not to mention that adding both to a lineup with Utley, Howard and Brown would make the lineup ridiculously left-handed.

I'd take Shane back if he agrees to hit RH even against RHP (or maybe that damn wrist injury will be healed by then)

•One MLB official told ESPN.com’s Buster Olney that the Phillies would like to re-acquire a player they once drafted and developed. "You know who they want, right?" the official asked Olney. "They love Michael Bourn." Bourn also figures to draw interest from the Nationals when he hits free agency this offseason, and the Braves will likely have some interest in retaining him. Bourn and agent Scott Boras might have tremendous leverage as the three NL East teams bid for his services. Olney suggests Bourn figures to get a multiyear deal in the $16-22MM per season range, and I agree.

From MLB Trade Rumors today...can't wait to sign Bourn to a multi-year deal at $22 million/season.
Do you think April is too early for a Roger Dorn night?

I wouldn't offer Bourn anything more than $13-14 mil. I seriously don't know where these numbers are coming from. They're ridiculous.

Just cross your fingers the Dodgers don't jump in and push that to $44M annually

i still think it makes more sense to spend big money on hamilton and go double platoon in the corners. hamilton is worth a lot more for 120 games per season than bourn for 159 games per season. he'll eventually have his dl stint, but mayberry and schierholtz can cover cf for the odd 15-20 game stretch.

hamilton will cost $22-25M per for 6 years. yeah, hes riskier than the normal marquee free agent. hes also a 7-9 win player who is "worth" 30-40m per year. with bmfc as his life coach, he'll be fine.

schierholtz/hairston in rf will make less than 4m in 2013. yaybear/dom brown in lf will make less than $1m in 2013. those 5 players combined will make $30m in 2013, and i think we're better off spending the bulk of it on one mvp-caliber player and using platoons in lf/rf. i think you can get a composite .820-850 ops, maybe more, from the platoons.

what are your thoughts on keeping jham in a corner OF spot to 'preserve' him?

Based on what I'm seeing, I'm ready to give Dom full control of an OF spot, likely LF from what I am seeing right now. They need a center fielder, and I really don't know who makes more sense than Shane Victorino. I just keep coming back to it. Bourn obviously makes sense, but $22 mil a year? No f'ing way. Boras can take that and shove it.

he doesnt want to play lf, and there's been a bunch of that back and forth in texas. so i think when hes exploring free agency, the ability to play cf is going to be at the top of his list.

Hearing Victorino is close to not just a deal with the Phillies but a two-season arc on "Justified"

ESPN's Buster Olney talks about the continued dominance of Justin Verlander, the Orioles chances down the stretch and says the Phillies made a mistake by not moving Cliff Lee.

When Buster and others talk about how the Phillies should have given away Cliff Lee they never consider two things: being competitive next year and selling tickets. They must assume that the Phillies are going to suck next year and no fans are going to show up even if they keep Lee so they might as well give him away.
