it'd be pretty hard to convince me that the nats didn't totally fuck up the strasburg situation.

Boras probably had a lot to do with it as well. But still...

Even the Mets are knob slobbing Chipper Jones. The Phils aren't going to do that, right???

Tbf, if we gave him a plaque with his stats versus the Phillies on it, I'd be okay as long as it also includes a picture of him striking out to end a game vs. the Phils--a sort of "gag" gift.

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered before, but I haven't really followed the story...why didn't the Nats just start Strasburg later in the season so they could actually use him in the post season? Unless they thought they just had no shot at the post season.

It's been asked plenty of times, and I'm pretty much with you. I don't think we ever got an answer besides they wanted to protect him and probably thought they wouldn't be there at the end of the year.

I guess my plan would have been to have him start in April and May by cutting him loose, limit him to 95 pitches in June and July (no long starts), 90 pitches in August (or fewer), bullpen in September for two weeks, bring him back as starter for a few starts and then cut him loose for the post-season. Even that plan seems a bit over-thought. Basically, I would have had any plan that limited his action in September and allowed him to pitch in October. I can't believe they didn't shut him down or do whatever with him when they saw they would be in good shape for the division since about mid-August

When Uecker once posed for his baseball card batting left handed. I wish I'd kept that one.

Probably wanted the guaranteed revenue of his April/May home starts

They average 7K more when he pitches. I'd guess they'd still come out to see him even if they were out of the race.

Verlander threw less than 100 pitches for the first time in 80 starts.

It's gonna suck for them next year when a healthy restocked phillies team wins the div by 10 games
