I heard that they retained the right for ad sales before but had not seen this explanation. It appears to explain why they seem to have a very small inventory of broadcast advertisers whose commercials appear over and over and over. On the face of it, it's an unusual approach to have in-stadium signage drive TV ad deals but there should be added value for any advertiser who signs on for a sponsorship deal without fear of getting ambushed by a competitor buying up ad time. Presumably the Phils should be getting more than the signage and ad rates would each cost independently. But the limited inventory makes you wonder. It's important to note the Phillies also profit from TV advertising sales, which they still handle in-house, to avoid sponsor conflicts in ballpark signage. The amount the Phillies earn from those sales is unknown, but in any future mega-deal, the Phillies could choose to cede the revenue from TV ad sales to Comcast or another broadcaster, if the price is right.

Tainted from previous BSG outings.

How are the phillies not in this sub-section? Their farm system is devoid of talent due to them emptying it for over-priced pitchers, and they have way too many $18 mil - $25 million/year long-term contracts. they are screwed from 2012 through the foreseeable future. especially with their playoff meal tickets getting better every year (anyone can win 102 games when you play 54 games against the Mets, Marlins, and Nationals each year).
