They all buried it until they met at his wife's funeral in 2009 and realized that there were others who suffered. After that they compared notes and made the video testimonies. There really wasn't anything they could do legally because of the statute of limitations, but I think they realized after Sandusky that awareness is still important. At this point I think it's less about Conlin and more about urging people to come forward if they're in a similar circumstance.

I always feel bad for the victims in any kind of case like this. Right. Obviously there are a lot of people out there who abuse kids sexually. Probably more than the public would like to admit. Everytime a headline comes out like this its easy to point a finger and scream "Monster!" when in fact people should try and understand it and accept that people who commit these crimes are in fact human beings. There are obviously some issues with the human brain that leads to this type of behavior.

But for me - and those on my side - it has nothing to do with Joe Paterno. I don't give a rat's ass about Joe Paterno one way or the other. I care about enforcing organizational accountability for this kind of breakdown. Take another example - if Charlie Manuel - who I do care about and who I do actively root for - were in the same position as Joe Paterno, and behaved in the same way, I'd want to see him fired as well, minimally.

If the head coach of Ohio State were the one who stood accused - I have so little interest in college football I have no idea what that guy's name is, despite the recent scandals - would you be anywhere near as adamant that the man was the least guilty of all and should retain whatever sainted stature he received on OSU's campus? Wouldn't you use an OSU fan's unflinching support of a coach of HIS team in the same situation as a way to make fun of that person, etc.?

Granted, but one has to draw the line somewhere. I wouldn't romanticize any Philly athlete, coach, or organization that was involved as deeply as PSU and its football program were involved in the Sandusky thing.

WilliamC has admitted that Joe SHOULD HAVE done more, multiple times. As have I...go back and look at our posting history.

It was an admittedly bad troll on my part, but you are seriously barking up the wrong tree. You tried to white-knight one of the earlier PSU threads, suggesting they should have thrown Joe Paterno in jail yesterday. I called you out then and I am calling you (and Nightman) out again.

You two haven't stayed on top of this story, that is an absolute fact.

Like I said, it was a bad troll on my part, but my point stands.

Conlin's story is absolutely awful and it is a damn shame he cannot be tried in a court of law.

I know the details of how Paterno handled the situation at the time and how he handled it when the story broke recently, and I have a hard time spinning it anyway in my head that doesn't end up with the conclusion that Paterno is somewhere between pathetic and bad person.
