Sandusky did better than that in his prime.

Might be. I can't think of any others

AND SPEAKING OF KNUCKLEBALLERS.....I just saw a list of the lefty knuckleballers in MLB history and there have been three in the last 30 years...and I don't remember any of them :|

Rich Sauveur, Kirt Ojala and Dan Boone

Moar knuckleballer trivia: Phil Niekro in '73 was the last to throw a no-hitter

I remember Dan Boone. Little guy with a big mustache. Pitched a little in the early 80s, then made a short comeback in 1990 at the age of 36.

Don't know the other two at all.

Jonathan Herrera finished with a contact rate of 88.4 percent. Teammate Troy Tulowitzki finished with a contact rate of 88.5 percent. Were it not for this botched hit-and-run, Herrera would've finished with a contact rate of 88.6 percent. I like to think the two made a preseason wager and this play is why Jonathan Herrera had to spend all offseason weeding Tulowitzki's yard in the same pair of children's overalls.

It's usually terrifying when a pitcher throws behind a batter. Oftentimes a pitcher will throw behind a batter on purpose to send a message. Sean Rodriguez wasn't terrified. Sean Rodriguez barely reacted at all. That's how far behind Sean Rodriguez Andrew Brackman threw this pitch. Look at how casually the catcher requests a new ball. "Yep, looks like he's up to this shit again."

College baseball time. Stanford beat Vandy last night behind a nice first start by Appel. I'm heading out now to catch the 2nd game in the series. Beede (1st round by Toronto out of HS) goes today for Vandy. Battle of the robber barons.

Beede was 86-88 all day. Touched 91 a few times, but you could see he was reaching back for it. Nice arm action on his changeup. First inning he got ahead of all the hitters. Defense let him down (Vandy's infield D was putrid all day--3 errors). I really doubt the scouting reports that said he was hitting 95. I understand it's his first game of the year, but no way he's hit 95 in a game. Made a really athletic play on a bunt. Small sample size and all...but going to college might have been a bad decision. His fastball is on a single plane, can't teach movement.

Mooneyham from Stanford is an intersting lefty. Missed last year because of a laceration on his hand. Was 88 most of the day, but could run it up to 94. Mechanics were all over the place. Decent curve every now and then. Big kid. He'll go in the top 5 rounds on lefty arm strength. Was surprised he didnt' give the Vandy lefties more trouble.

Chris Harvey from Norristown DH'ed for Vandy. True freshman from Germantown Academy. Definitely looks the part of a middle of the order masher and, from what I've read, is apparently sturdy behind the plate. Looked completely lost at the plate though. Didn't take the bat off his shoulder for the first two at bats, then took timid swings in his other appearances.

Appel was listed as the DH for Stanford but never saw the plate.

David Schmidt, a true freshman for Stanford, came in and was hitting 92-94 consistently. Granted it was in relief, but very impressive. Compact, efficient delivery. He'll get knocked for being undersized.

Mayberry--->Michael Taylor--->Austin Wilson. No idea why he was batting 8th. Stanford swing personified. Haven't seen a back elbow that high since little league.

Connor Harrell from Vandy went yard twice. Built like a running back.

Law tweeted that Wilson got big and his bat looked slow. Probably a mistake for position prospects to pick Stanford over pro ball at this point.
