Can Beltran play anywhere except right field? Is that a problem?

Hilarious.

What I actually said at the time was, this guy is pitching well at triple-A and throwing a fastball in the low '90s. Could it hurt to look at him as a lefty relief guy? Apparently, some people in the Phillies organization - you know, people who actually get paid to work in baseball - thought it was worth a try too. It didn't work out - but it wasn't a crazy idea.

If you want to criticize my opinions, okay. Putting them in a public forum opens you up to that. But please don't mis-represent what I've said. That's just lazy and weak.

I hope you and/or Barry Jive will enlighten us as to who the Phillies could get for reasonable pay who is clearly better.

You guys love to fantasize about having a team full of 1.000 OPS guys who work on modest, one-year deals and never age past 32. Meanwhile, in the real world, team-building is difficult, requires compromise and a willingness to try to offset the weaknesses of who you could actually get.

If I were a GM and I signed Keppinger to a one-year deal to fill in at 2b, SS and 3b, I'd be hoping to get the Keppinger of 2009, who didn't put up an ungodly OPS but had a solid season all the same. If he didn't reach that level, it'd be a livable one-year mistake, no worse than going with Mini-Mart or Valdez or probably Polanco at this point.

The Walrus had a pretty solid season at Reading and LV last year. Have to admit I didn't realize he was still in baseball.

Barry said those guys stink, which they do. Who doesn't want a team full of > 1.000 OPS guys/doesn't realize that's a fantasy? As the roster is currently constructed we really shouldn't be giving two fucks about cost efficient role players. We need impact making hitters.

Also, seriously why isn't Beltran getting more attention? He was incredible last year and has been excellent apart from 2010

Maybe his money demands are out of whack for his currently kinda broken state.

Also, he's started 2 career games in left.

Here's a random thought:

Wade Davis must have a PR firm working overtime, because he has basically convinced the national writers (read: Heyman and Morosi) that he's some demigod young stud pitcher

Yeah, he's really young and he's under contract for pretty cheap, but he should be:

Can anyone tell me what's special about this freaking guy? I mean, Morosi was essentially saying SD should flip Rizzo for him. Why?

I audibly groaned every time anyone here ever mentioned trading for Wade Davis. I think we were pretty hot and heavy in July '10 with Werth before they went on a tear and got Oswalt

was a pretty hardcore SIERA fan at the time and Davis was basically bottom 5 in the majors for a certain threshold

Wade Davis is a pretty good name though. Like a gunslinger. You know the gunslinger mentality is pretty important. Not as much as the bulldog mentality but pretty good anyways.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Joakim Soria has a no trade clause for 6 teams- Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers, Braves, Rockies... someone doesn't like big cities/markets... and thin air
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response
