What I actually said at the time was, this guy is pitching well at triple-A and throwing a fastball in the low '90s. Could it hurt to look at him as a lefty relief guy? Apparently, some people in the Phillies organization - you know, people who actually get paid to work in baseball - thought it was worth a try too. It didn't work out - but it wasn't a crazy idea.

You guys love to fantasize about having a team full of 1.000 OPS guys who work on modest, one-year deals and never age past 32. Meanwhile, in the real world, team-building is difficult, requires compromise and a willingness to try to offset the weaknesses of who you could actually get.

If I were a GM and I signed Keppinger to a one-year deal to fill in at 2b, SS and 3b, I'd be hoping to get the Keppinger of 2009, who didn't put up an ungodly OPS but had a solid season all the same. If he didn't reach that level, it'd be a livable one-year mistake, no worse than going with Mini-Mart or Valdez or probably Polanco at this point.

Barry said those guys stink, which they do. Who doesn't want a team full of > 1.000 OPS guys/doesn't realize that's a fantasy? As the roster is currently constructed we really shouldn't be giving two fucks about cost efficient role players. We need impact making hitters.

Also, seriously why isn't Beltran getting more attention? He was incredible last year and has been excellent apart from 2010

I audibly groaned every time anyone here ever mentioned trading for Wade Davis. I think we were pretty hot and heavy in July '10 with Werth before they went on a tear and got Oswalt

was a pretty hardcore SIERA fan at the time and Davis was basically bottom 5 in the majors for a certain threshold

Wade Davis is a pretty good name though. Like a gunslinger. You know the gunslinger mentality is pretty important. Not as much as the bulldog mentality but pretty good anyways.
