Have we won any big bidding wars at all in the last five years or so? CLIFF LEE is the only one that sorta counts

I think the point was that if offer A and B are the same, most players will opt for the Phillies, Sox and Yanks. So if teams wanted elite FAs, theyd have to grossly overpay, like the Nats did

it wasn't huge but I think we outbid the Cubs for Ibanez. but that mighta just been how quick Rube acted/the fact that we just won the World Fucking Series

thought the Mets were in on Ibanez too

Polanco was one of the top FAs when he returned

lost the Soriano bidding war (yay)

Does Lieber count? That was '05 and he left the Yankees for more money, but in the grand scheme of things the only thing major about him was that damn truck...

And Thome has a .878 O
PS. There's no chance in hell he would make it to the Phils on waivers.

Hagan points out in his article today it doesn't matter if Thome is claimed by another team because he has a no-trade clause he can refuse assignment and become a FA. He'll forfeit his salary but it's not much anyway. Thome really wants to come back to Philly right?

Herndon: 3.18 SIERA, excellent contact numbers (low linedrive%, high IFF% etc). 9 K/BB, 61.3 GB% against RHB.

Is he projected to be a starter ever? I guess Ruben was smarter than us again on that one. Maybe MMart will be an star next year.

He's a starter turned reliever actually. Seems to have found his place right now.

didn't see salisbury's article mentioned where davey lopes revealed he had thoracic outlet syndrome which leads to numbness in his fingers. Finally got it corrected for this season. Good night Gracie

Who was a Phillies longer: Jack Cust or Luis Castillo?

But seriously, could this mean that Amaro has his eye on another power-hitting lefty...like, ummm, well, Thome?
