2011 Random Phillies Stuff VI: Return Of The Nice Guy

I thought I'd skip plotting the actual pennant race this year and go right to the all time Phillies record race, with the Yankees '98 and Mariners '01 teams thrown in for comparison.

I agree. If Boras tries to hold up the Phillies, all Rube has to do is tell Madson to call Jayson Werth and ask him how it feels to be locked into a losing team in a half full stadium that boos him for being an overpaid, underperforming player.

why would it have to be a crap team?

This thread needs more graphs and stuff like that.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

And hey, speaking of pie, I notice Chris Lubanski is now a Phillie farm hand. He was once a # 5 overall pick by the Royals (i know, right?). He was notorious for having really bad starts during the early part of his career and then finishing seasons like gangbusters. He was once pretty toolsy; fast, a decent defender and could hit some. Scouts were really divided regarding him. He was kind of like a 12th round toolsy, high ceiling Phillie lottery type guy.

Now I understand he doesn't really run or defend very well any more and he's just a scrubeenie. He's just 26 but has had a lot happen during his frustrating career.

Oh yeah, he played at Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School in Norristown, Pennsylvania.

I believe he was last playing for the Chico Outlaws in some Indy league.

Just watched the end of "The Godfather."

I'm pretty sure they've popped in Ruben's head for Pacino in some of those late scenes.

If he still holds out for the highest possible dollar, then move on. Everyone knows Philly's the place to be now. There's a top flight reliever out there willing to play in Philly for a reasonable contract.

Yes, I'm sure Wertz cries himself to sleep on a abed of hundred dollar bills with bongs and skull vodka lined all along it.

good point. Though I vaguely remember earlier this year some beat writer saying how teams generally prefer to leave a spot open just in case. No idea why that'd be really
