Maybe I'm not understanding something but the Braves were only 1 game better than the Giants in '93.

He probably made a mistake.

But that would mean that people who post comments to on-line articles are not always accurate.

Very true. I noticed the little blurb you posted mentioned the Phillies not resigning Lee when he became a free agent in 2009.

Yup. I didn't read that all that carefully, because, as I said, it wasn't anything we didn't already read here. It was fun getting Amaro quotes though.

In the 12 games he played in after his partial benching against SD (including that game) -- 50 PAs -- Howard is hitting .333/ .360/ .854/ 1.214 with 16 hits and 13 extra base hits, 6 HRs, 7 2Bs. Only 1 non-intentional walk.

In the 54 previous PAs, he hit .208/.296/.292/.588 with 1 HR and 1 2b. Three non-intentional walks.

They said he made an adjustment in an extra hitting session before the benched game, but man, crazy. Who made the adjustment is what I want to know. Charlie? Gross? Howard?

The big thing I noticed for Howard lately vs a few weeks ago is that he changed his front foot a little. A while ago when he was struggling he was jabbing his front foot down way early in the pitcher's delivery (ostensibly to get into hitting position earlier). I think that was screwing with the timing of his swing a little though, made his swing somewhat herky jerky. All those bombs he hit in the Rockies series, his front foot movement was much more understated and natural and his whole swing looked a lot smoother

Now I don't think that's the only thing that changed since I noticed he scrapped the jab step thing earlier than his hot streak. Whatever the path to get here though, his swing is pretty right now

Also thought a lot of Dom's issues this year were timing derived from strange/inconsistent front foot stuff, but we'll save that for when he resurfaces

in any easy sortable table i'm not sure.

you can get r/g on bbref and sort from the time he came back. but i think you'd have to manually do every other teams from that start date as well and keep track of the numbers.

My favourite sortable table right now. It keeps me warm at night. Well, that and the thought of a drunken smoltz bawling into his pillow. What a prick.

It's absurd how good this starting rotation is compared to our supposed competitors. fucking absurd.

LOL... the Astros' strarting pitchers have 3.4 WAR as a group... and they traded Wandy Rodriguez.

Oh wait, I guess they didn't. I was sure that I read that they had?

Sadly the same table for relievers not as inspiring. Unless you like tomahawk choppers.

1.8 BB/9 is ridiculous. Remember when Lidge, Madson, and Romero were usually good for that many walks by themselves... and the Phillies were WFC anyway?

from mlbtraderumors & the Daily News:

Ruben Amaro Jr. told Paul Hagen of the Philadelphia Daily News that he doesn’t want to let Jimmy Rollins slip away when he hits free agency. The Phillies’ general manager expressed optimism about reaching a new deal with his shortstop after the season.

"Obviously, we'd like to bring Jimmy back,” Amaro said. “And I'd like to think he would want to come back."

Amaro said he probably won’t discuss a deal for Rollins until after the season. The Phillies are up against the luxury tax and will also see Ryan Madson hit free agency this winter. Cole Hamels is an extension candidate, which means Amaro faces major decisions regarding key members of his team in the near future.

I examined Rollins' free agent stock yesterday, suggesting that he and the Phillies could agree to a three-year, $30MM deal. The 32-year-old projects as a Type A free agent, so the Phillies would obtain two top draft picks if they offer arbitration and he declines the offer and signs elsewhere.

I'd be very happy to see Young James take that deal, and I'd be surprised if Smugs didn't agree, but at least for starters I'm sure Rollins will want more. Hopefully he lets the Phils get a last shot this winter.

AFAIC, he and Utley are the signature players of the Golden Age. I hope they both never wear another uni.
